ART OF THE AMERICAN SOLDIER
PASSING
THE TIME
Soldiers spend a lot of time waiting when they are not on duty.
They enjoy many different activities to keep from getting bored.
Look at the art in the “Camp Life” gallery.
List some examples of activities shown in the artwork.

WHAT SYMBOL DO YOU SEE?
The symbol of a red cross tells soldiers
from all sides that the people, buildings
and vehicles they see are helping those
who need medical treatment. They are
not to be attacked. In fact, if soldiers do
attack something or someone with a red
cross, they can get into a lot of trouble.
Look through this gallery and count all of
the examples of the red cross you can find.
Draw a symbol in the space below that
means safety to you and your family.
