Franklin M. Dolwick, DMD, Ph.D.
Johan Reyneke qualified as a Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeon at the
University of Pretoria in 1979 and is in private practice in Johannesburg.
He is an active part time member of the Department of Maxillofacial
and Oral Surgery at the University of Witwatersrand where he received a
honorary Professorship in 1990. He has also been appointed Clinical
Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the
University of Oklahoma, U.S.A. as well as the University of Florida, U.S.A.
and is the Director of the Centre for Orthognathic Surgery at Sunninghill
Hospital, Johannesburg. He is also a member of the Craniofacial Unit
at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand. He
received his Doctorate from the University of Tampara, Finland for a
thesis entitled – Rotation of the maxillomandibular complex – an
alternative treatment design in Orthognathic Surgery.

Johan has a passion for Orthognathic and Reconstructive facial surgery and has presented numerous courses
and papers and published extensively locally, as well as internationally. He currently presents a course
“ Orthognathic Surgery - Occlusion and beyond“ in various locations around the world. Dr. Reyneke is the
author of several books and book chapters on orthognathic surgery and his most recent book “Essentials of
Orthognathic Surgery” was published in March 2003. His experience in clinical orthognathic surgery is vast
having performed more than 7000 orthognathic procedures.
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Diagnostic Sciences
Dr. Dolwick’s main areas of interest include the surgical treatment of
temporomandibular disorders including internal derangement,
degenerative joint disease, hypermobility, ankylosis, fractures and
pathology. Other interests include surgical treatment of skeletal facial
deformities including orthognathic surgery, distraction osteogenesis and reconstruction, Craniofacial deformities
including Craniofacial deformities and cleft lip and palate.
Dr. Dolwick’s current research interest is the management of temporomandibular joint internal derangement with
arthrocentesis.
He served as President of the South African Society of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeons from 1994 to 1998 and
is the president of the College of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeons of South Africa.

Joe Niamtu, III DMD is a board certified OMS who limits his practice to
cosmetic facial surgery. Dr. Niamtu is well known in international
cosmetic surgery circles as an teacher, author and clinician. He has
published over 200 article on cosmetic facial surgery edited 3 textbooks
and has contributed 20 textbook chapters to textbooks in OMS,
dermatology, facial plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgery and cosmetic
surgery.
Dr. McCain practices the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
His special interest includes minimally invasive endoscopic surgery.
Dr. McCain has published numerous peer reviewed articles and text
book chapters on endoscopic techniques and outcomes. He authored the textbook Principles and Practice of
Temporomandibular Arthroscopy, published in 1996. Dr. McCain’s current research interest is the development
of the office based TMJ Arthroscopic system.
Dr. Niamtu is currently authoring a sole author text on cosmetic facial
surgery. Dr. Niamtu is a preceptor for Botox and several filler and laser
companies, hosts live surgery workshops and has been featured on
the cover of Plastic Surgery Practice magazine. He is passionate about
cosmetic facial surgery and provides an entertaining and informative
presentation.
Steven M. Sullivan, DDS
Maxillofacial Educational Series
Dr. Sullivan has devoted much of his professional career
developing orthognathic surgery as the main focus of his
practice. His practice is devoted to surgical correction of
dentofacial deformities, temporomandibular joint
reconstruction and complex dental implant reconstruction
of the maxillofacial region. Dr. Sullivan lectures nationally
and internationally on these topics.
He completed his dental training at the Baylor College of
Dentistry in Dallas, Texas in 1983. He then underwent oral
and maxillofacial surgery training at the University of
Oklahoma, completing the program in 1988. His
international training experiences included the West of
Scotland Plastic and Oral Surgery Unit in Glasgow Scotland,
as well as the University of Melbourne and Royal Children’s
Hospital as a fellow in the Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery unit in Melbourne, Australia.
Dr. Sullivan is currently Professor and Chairman at the University of Oklahoma Department of Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has served on the examination committee for the American Board of
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, has been President of the Oklahoma Society of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons and the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Tony McCollum, HDD, M Dent
• Arthroscopic TMJ Surgery
Professor McCollum graduated from the University of the
Witwatersrand in 1970 with a BDS degree. From 1974 to
1976 he studied post graduate orthodontics at the
University of the Witwatersrand graduating with an HDD
(Orth) and an M.Dent degree in 1978. He has been in
private practice since then but also serves on the post
graduate teaching staff in the orthodontic department at
the University of the Witwatersrand.
Dr. McCollum is involved in research with a particular
interest in orthognathic surgery. He lectures locally and
overseas, has published internationally and will be the
guest editor of the September 2009 issue of Seminars in
Orthodontics which will be entitled “Facial Soft Tissue: the
basis of the orthognathic treatment planning”. He is a past
president of the South African Society of Orthodontics and is married to Louisa and has three grown
children.
