ORANGE COUNTY DEMOCRATIC ENTHUSIASM!
Congratulations to Orange County Democratic Party Chair Matt Hughes and all the Democrats
of Orange County for their outstanding performance in the 2016 General Election.
AMAZING:
More than 350 Orange Democrats turned out for their monthly Party meeting in
Chapel Hill on November 20th - AFTER THE ELECTION!
When these pictures were posted on Facebook, several people wrote messages asking why
there were not more young people at the meeting.
Here is the answer: MORE THAN 100 YOUNG DEMOCRATS WERE SITTING ON THE FLOOR
IN FRONT OF THE PEOPLE SHOWN IN THESE PICTURES.
As you can see: There are a large number of people standing all around the meeting hall.
Orange County Democrats are ready to fight the battles ahead!

FIVE DEMOCRATIC COUNTY COMMISSIONERS IN WASHINGTON COUNTY!
At the December 5th meeting of the County Commissioners in Plymouth
Cole Phelps and Jennifer Riddick took their Oaths of Office.
Cole (second from left) was re-elected to his second term in the November 8th election.
Jennifer (center) was elected to her first term.
Their elections preserved the Washington County Board as an all-Democratic Board of Commissioners!
From the left they are Commissioners Tracey Johnson, Cole Phelps, Jennifer Riddick,
Bill Sexton, and Board Chair Julius Walker.
STERLING CARTER INSTALLED AS
NORTH CAROLINA’S YOUNGEST COUNTY COMMISSIONER!
On December 5th Sterling Carter of Caswell County was inaugurated as our state’s youngest
County Commissioner. His mother held the Bible while the Oath of Office was administered to him.
In the picture on the right Sterling is being congratulated by Eighth Congressional District
Democratic Party Chair Dylan Frick. Sterling and Dylan became friends when both of them were
attending the College of Charleston. They spent many hours over meals talking about
political activism and about the possibility of being elected to public office.
TENTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT DEMOCRATS
SALUTE ANDY MILLARD!
At their December meeting in Columbus, NC, the Democrats of the Tenth Congressional
District surprised their 2016 congressional candidate Andy Millard with
an award and many oral tributes. Tenth District Democrats expressed
their pride in Andy and his strong campaign to represent the people!
Tenth District Chair Betsy Wells led the tributes and presented the award to Andy.
This picture shows part of the crowd of Democrats who gathered in
Polk County, Andy’s home county, to salute him and to share the Democratic spirit.
DUPLIN DEMOCRATS HONORED!

JAKE MORGAN WITH LARRY KING!
Charlotte’s Jake Morgan, Vice President of the Teen Democrats of North Carolina,
had the unique honor of having famous TV talk show host Larry King attend an event he chaired.
When this publication asked about this picture, Jake wrote:
“My youth group chapter’s international board schedules an event called Global Shabbat
in which every chapter worldwide has a teen-led Shabbat service with a theme and guest speaker.
The theme this year was “Game Changers” and we had Harry Swimmer, the founder of
Mitey Riders in Weddington, NC as our speaker. Harry was nominated for CNN’s Heroes
Series and Larry King was in Charlotte covering Harry and his organization for the reveal
of the winner of the CNN series this weekend.
“Somehow, our local chapter’s adult advisors managed to have Larry king speak at our service!
So I, as President of one of two male chapters of our youth group in Charlotte,
had the honor of inducting Larry King as an honorary member of our group.
I asked Larry about what he’s noticed about successful people in politics,
and he told me to be motivated, do the right thing, and study hard. It was
a pleasure and an honor.”

HOLIDAY DECORATIONS FOR PRESIDENT AND MRS. OBAMA’S
LAST CHRISTMAS AT THE WHITE HOUSE!
TWO YOUTH FEATURES!
ELIZABETH MCGUIRT – UNION COUNTY!
Elizabeth McGuirt is a five year old Democrat in Union County. She will turn six in January.
She is a kindergarten student at Wingate Elementary School.
She is the granddaughter of Frank and Jenny McGuirt. Frank was the Democratic Sheriff
of Union County for many years. After finishing his law enforcement career, the people of Union
County elected him to be their Democratic State Representative.
Elizabeth helped Frank erect signs at three precincts in Union County on election eve.
When he took her home, Elizabeth told her mother: “Well, I voted for Hillary Clinton!” Frank wishes
he had taken pictures of her helping erect the signs.
She has attended several local Democratic meetings where she has developed a
discriminating taste for barbecue and hot dogs!
Elizabeth’s great great great great great grandfather, Andrew Jackson McGuirt, was
named for our Democratic President Andrew Jackson.
The McGuirt family is proud to have been Democrats from the Party’s founding.
Frank lovingly provided the captions under the pictures on subsequent pages.

Jude’s news: For several months he has been working at learning how to
write poems like his father does. He has just learned that one of his poems
will be published in the March/April issue of “STONE SOUP MAGAZINE!”
His mother, Bianka, writes: I am proud of good spelling tests and
goals in soccer, but Jude’s desire to be a poet
makes my heart gladdest.”
Cora and Jude have proudly helped
with sign campaigns in several elections.
Their father, Ty Stumpf,
has served as Chair of the Lee County
