March 2017 - Coastal Bend College

The Official Newsletter of Upward Bound & UB GOST
March 2017
Happy Spring Break! To help kick off the break, we will have our usual pre-Spring Break
meeting on March 11th. We’ll have a career talk from a trooper about Spring Break
safety, we’ll watch a movie at Rio 6, and let’s be real, EAT. Don’t miss! Remember, this
counts for points!
March 25th is a big day. We will have an instructional day at the
college, but we will also have Dual Enrollment on hand to assist
with any registration issues. If you would like to take a Dual Enrollment class, please print the form
from the website: http://www.coastalbend.edu/ODE_Admissions_Process_/
1
The Dual Enrollment form needs to be signed by your school
counselor and your parents. Make sure to have this completed
by March 25th. If you’re not sure which classes you should take
or what your TSI score will allow you to enroll in, make sure you
contact one of us and we will help you.
So what else happens March 25th? Well, for Seniors, that is your
deadline to submit your Senior Summer Bridge Scholarship
(want to stay in the dorms and have UB cover tuition and fees?
Then you BETTER turn this in! :-D). It is also the deadline for the
CBC Scholarship. Make sure both of these are submitted by then, as no late entries will be
accepted! Don’t let us down...or we’ll just stare at you... disappointedly.
ACT & SAT for Juniors
Juniors, what is your ACT score? If you took the test in February or earlier, your scores have already
been posted! These are critically important for your college admission so if you aren’t pleased with
the score you received, take the test again! You can retest a second time and we’ll provide a waiver
for the fee.
So what’s a good ACT score?
Each category receives a score between 1 (lowest) and 36 (highest). The average s core is roughly a
21.
What’s a good SAT score?
The scores from each section can range from 200 to 800, so the best possible total score is 2400.
The average score for each section is roughly 500, so the a
verage total s core is about 1500.
Understand what “average” means — a score of around 1500 would lump you in with the majority
of students applying to school, and wouldn’t give a school much reason to pick you out of the
crowd for admission. Therefore, students should definitely aim for a score that is much higher than
this number. An SAT score of 2100 is an example of a number that would almost guarantee
acceptance into the college of your choice .
