NEW PEAR CULTIVAR SISSY
Origin: A pear cultivar derived in our nurseries from
Seckel chance seedlings.
Plant: Is medium sized, upright to spindle spreading, it
produces heavy crops consistent from year to year.
Requires around 700 chilling hours, however it grows also
well in warmer areas.
It is suitable for dense planting schemes with optimum
distances 1.2mX3.8m.
It is pollinated mostly by Coscia, and Santa Maria.
Resistance to pests and diseases: Grown to its
own rootstock (clone of Cydonia of Provence) which is
resistant to phytophthora, root cancer and nematodes,
demonstrates High tolerance to fire blight (Erwinia amylovora), scab (Venturia pyrina)and septoria (Septoria pyricola).
Also very tolerant to Psylla pyricola.

Fruit: It ripens the first week of August, almost 15 days
prior to Highland and it is green with a red blush. It is ready
for harvest at 12-14% Brix.
Fruit
Its fruit size is comparable to Highland from 200gr up to
350gr when properly thinned. Output can exceed 40
tons/ha in standard wire systems and up to 60tons/ha in
intensive planting systems.
Flesh is very sweet, crisp and juicy with excellent flavor.
Develops long storage ability, can be kept at -0.5 to -1.0˚C
until February (6 months in RS) and up to mid May (9
months in CA storage).
In the fridge it becomes yellow-gold.
“SISSY®” pears are excellent for eating fresh and suitable
for processing (fresh-cut salads, canning).
“SISSY®” pear trees require very little use of pesticides
making it a cultivar suitable for organic production.
“SISSY®” cultivar is very promising, dynamic and can dominate the market because of the very low production costs
and high productivity.
