Students will review verbs about cooking with this simple cloze listening
activity.

Preparation:
Make copies of the handout.
Instructions:
Ask your students about their favorite foods. Write a few of their answers on the board.
Ask your
students if they can cook their favorite food. Tell your students you are going to teach them a simple
recipe for making pasta.
Give each student a handout. Ask your AET to read each sentence slowly. Your students should
fill in the blank spaces with the correct word. Your AET should read the passage twice. Check
answers as a class.
Answer Key
It is very easy to cook pasta. First cut an onion and some mushrooms. Then fry the onions and
mushrooms in a little oil. Next add tomato sauce and spices and let everything simmer for about
5 minutes.
In a different pot, boil some water and throw the pasta in. When the pasta is cooked, drain it.
Put some pasta sauce on top of the pasta and your meal is ready!
