The Great Gatsby
Directions:
1. Read and annotate the novel
2. Create flashcards with the following terms: figurative language, rhetorical shifts, syntax (have to
identify what kind of syntax, i.e. use an adjective to describe the syntax), diction (have to
identify what kind of diction, i.e. use an adjective to describe the type of word choice used), and
repetition (of words, images, or symbols)
3. Please include the following on each card:
a. Definition
b. Picture
c. Example from the book with a proper citation
4. A total of 30 cards are due at the beginning of the year
