THESIS STATEMENTS
The thesis statement asserts the main subject of a paper. It is the
sentence that will tell the readers exactly what the paper is
about.
The thesis statement is almost always the last sentence of
the first paragraph.
This is the sentence that will clearly state the writer’s point
of view on the subject.
If at all possible, the thesis statement needs to be one
sentence.
Each body paragraph needs to relate to the thesis statement.
If the paragraphs of your essay do not agree with the thesis
statement, you may need to revise the thesis, the essay, or both.
Find examples of good thesis statements in your textbook, Quick
Access, the Tutoring Center, or online. This may help you have
a better grasp of what a thesis must sound like.
Examples of a good thesis are:
1. Since the internet is filled with tremendous marketing
potential, companies should exploit this potential by using
web pages that offer both advertising and customer support.

2. Hunger persists throughout Sudan because jobs are scarce
and farming the infertile land is rarely profitable.
3. Video games are intriguing and addicting in ways that have
taken over the minds and lives of most children, as well as
some adults.
4. Because the life of American poet Robert Frost is so
impacting and exciting, he profoundly influenced the
writings of many other poets now and in the past.
