1. Spinach vegetables increase CD4 in very short time
The Cooperative COCLPGA is indeed advanced considering their green vegetable plantations.
The most developed crop as it is clearly observable on pictures is spinach which has a very
growing speed. On side of COCLPEGA and COASORU this kind has already reached the
consumption stage and the all consumers are very happy for the sweetness.
Moreover, apart from the sweetness, one of HIV infected members who ate spinach vegetables is
actually testify for his life improvement. Mr. HABARIMANA Idrissa has recently done the
medical test control and registered the direct increase of 100 CD4 after about two weeks of
spinach consumption. This is the latest and good news for PLWHIV.
Although this kind of vegetables seems to be not more popular in the region of Nyagatare as well
as in whole country, but, in case of news breaking, there should be a wide extension of plantation
to allow the direct accessibility to different markets hence serving two major purposes:
1. The first important role is about health purpose to HIV infected people by maximizing
the chances of increasing CD4.
2. The second advantage is linked to the commercial mission of spinach farmers and getting
unlimited market thereby increasing their financial capacity.
1.2 The Local leaders impressed by the current project achievements want
their population also to be trained by project beneficiaries for malnutrition
eradication.
The cooperative of COCLPEGA has its members in three cells of Gatunda sector; these are
Kabeza, Nyamikamba and Nyamirembe cells. In anyone, the members’ kitchen gardens look as
model demonstrations for the other population.
It is the reason why the executive secretary of Nyamirembe, Miss Sandrine
MUKANTARINDWA addressed her training request to the cooperative in favor of population of
Kabeza village so that they can also grow up the similar vegetable kitchen gardens in their
families and then eradicating malnutrition diseases. According to the cooperative chairperson,
their positive feedback is underway.
