GCISD Elementary Summer Programs offers a variety of class options intended to be fun and
engaging for children. Our classes are not only exciting; they are also filled with learning
opportunities for all. Our course offerings consist of various contents including music, arts and
crafts, adventure-seeking, technology, science, math, cultural studies, social skills, literature,
cooking and many more surprises!
GCISD’s Summer Enrichment Program is available for children who have completed grades
K-6 and are ages 5-13. Our courses and camps are designed with grade-level appropriate
content and will be enjoyed by all who attend. Students may enroll in up to two courses
every session; however, enrollment is limited so be sure to register early.
The Summer Enrichment and KidZU Camps will be returning to Cross Timbers Middle School
this year. The school is located at 2301 Pool Road in Grapevine. We also have several new
courses that are sure to be big hits and of course your old favorites. Don’t miss out on our
early bird registration specials where you can save $10/course or full-time camps by
registering and paying by the early bird deadline!
KidzU Summer Camps are available throughout the summer offering full day camps or
part-time childcare options if your child is participating in Summer Enrichment or any other
District program. Hours of operation are 6:30 AM-6:30 PM.
If there are younger siblings in your family wanting a summer camp experience, the District
has something else to offer. The GCISD Early Childhood Development Center is offering
preschool day camps during selected weeks. Check out their page in the brochure for more
information.
We encourage everyone to register online, however we will be happy to help with
registration at our Summer Programs Office located in the the Grapevine-Colleyville Tax

General Information
GCISD’s Summer Programs are governed by the regulations of the Texas Department of Family
and Protective Services. As District employees, all staff must pass criminal background checks,
as well as reference checks as part of the interview process.
Summer Enrichment:
The Programs
Classes in the Summer Enrichment Program are formatted to
accommodate students by grade level. The grade level indicated is the grade level
COMPLETED during the 2016-2017 school year. Summer Enrichment classes are designed for
students that have COMPLETED Kindergarten through 6th grade and are ages 5-13. Classes
offer a wide variety of experiences in many subject areas. The purpose is to encourage
participants to discover whether they have further interest and/or aptitude in a particular
subject.
KidzU: KidzU Camps are offered throughout the summer except on July 4. The program
offers a variety of activities including arts & crafts, group games, weekly swim trips and
field trips. Students who have COMPLETED Kindergarten through fifth grade can register for
KidzU Full Day Camps and Daily Care Camps. Students that have completed through sixth
grade can enroll in Part-Time KidzU Care for the weeks Summer Enrichment is in session.
We apologize for any inconvenience, however, students who have attended middle school
are no longer eligible to enroll in KidzU Full Day Camps or Daily Care Camps.
The Location
This year, GCISD Elementary Summer Programs, including Summer Enrichment and KidzU
Camp will be held at Cross Timbers Middle School, 2301 Pool Road in Grapevine. Many
programs extend their activities outdoors, weather permitting.
Class and Camp Times
Summer Enrichment: All Summer Enrichment Classes meet for three hours a day, five days a
week, for one week. Classes are held either morning or afternoon. Morning classes begin at
8:30 AM and conclude at 11:30 AM. Afternoon classes begin at 12:30 PM and conclude at 3:30
PM. Classes begin on Monday and conclude on Friday. Example: If your child is enrolled in
one AM class, he/she would attend five mornings. If your child is enrolled in one PM class,
he/she would attend five afternoons.
KidzU Camps: All KidzU Camps operate throughout the summer and provide students with
several care options. Part time care is offered during the weeks Summer Enrichment, STAAR
Academy, and Dual Language Academy are held. Students who participate in STAAR Academy
and Dual Language Academy will receive transportation to and from KidzU. KidzU Summer
Camp is available from June 5 through August 18, with the exception of July 4. Hours of
operation are 6:30 AM–6:30 PM. A parent or adult must sign their student in and out each day.

Summary- GCISD Summer Program Policies
The Staff
Summer Enrichment: Staff members in the Enrichment Program are under the direction of
Cindy Pearson, Principal of the Summer Enrichment Program. The staff consists of certified
teachers. Each class in the program is developed and facilitated by teachers.
KidzU: KidzU Summer Camps are staffed by the same District employees that parents and
students know from their after school program.
Arrival and Dismissal
(For students enrolled in Summer Enrichment Courses Only)
Morning Arrival: Students enrolled in morning Summer Enrichment classes, can begin arriving
at 8:00AM to eat breakfast in the cafeteria. Staff will not be available to supervise students
prior to 8:00AM so students needing to arrive earlier should sign up for KidZU Early Care
(available starting at 6:30 AM) and will then be able to attend their Summer Enrichment
course starting at 8:30AM.
Afternoon Arrival: Students enrolled in afternoon Summer Enrichment classes can begin
arriving at 12:00PM to eat lunch in the cafeteria before their afternoon class starts at
12:30PM.
Morning Course Only Dismissal: Students will be walked out by their teachers to the back SAC
circle drive to be dismissed at 11:30AM. If your child is staying for lunch, the teacher will
drop them off in the cafeteria to eat. If they do not have an afternoon course, please park
and come to the doors of the SAC at 12:00PM to pick up your child after lunch.
Afternoon Course Dismissal: All students will be walked out the SAC doors at the back of the
school for dismissal at 3:30PM. Any students needing to remain past 3:30PM should be
enrolled in KidzU Late Care (available until 6:30 PM).
Things from Home/Electronics
All classes and camps provide supplies necessary for a successful program unless something is
specified in the course description. If your child chooses to bring an electronic device (iPad,
iPhone) to use before and after program times, please know that although we will make every
effort to monitor the devices, that we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items. Due to
the privacy of all children, students will not be permitted to carry their personal technology
with them during KidzU.
Students enrolled in Summer Enrichment courses need to bring a
snack each day!
Security, Drop-off and Sign-In/Sign-Out Procedures
As a continuation of a district-wide focus on school security, all doors on the GCISD Summer
Programs campus will remain locked throughout the day. This will provide an added layer of
protection to ensure our schools remain secure environments for students, staff and visitors.
For drop off students, parents, and visitors are instructed to follow the driveway to the right
and enter through the back entrance of the SAC. Parking spaces will be available adjacent to
this entrance. Due to parking restrictions, the front entrance for CTMS will not be used for
drop off and pickup.
If your child attends Summer Enrichment courses ONLY, staff will greet your child as they
enter the building and then direct them to the cafeteria line or to their designated classroom
table. Their teacher will sign them in for the daily attendance record. At the end of the day,
your child’s teacher will escort them to the same back SAC entrance for curbside pickup.
Parents of KidzU camp or extended care students will be required to come in the building to
sign their child in or out. The KidzU office area will be located in the foyer by the back SAC
entrance. Due to the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) licensing
guidelines, all students must be escorted into the building by an adult.
Due to Texas state licensing requirements, parents, or a designated authorized pickup person, are
required to sign each child in and out every day.
Attendance
Summer Enrichment: Attendance is taken every day in every class. If your child is ill or will
not be able to attend, please contact us. If your child is absent for the entire scheduled class
session due to illness or emergency, we will make every effort to reschedule when possible.
Contact the Summer Enrichment Office at 817-251-5206 as soon as possible. There is voice
mail available for after-hours calls and it is checked first thing in the morning.
KidzU: Call in any unscheduled absences into the camp’s direct lines, 817-205-5812 or
817-251-5620, ext.2701, so the student’s name can be removed from any applicable field trip
or swim lists. There is a $25 no show fee for each child signed up for a field trip that does
not show up on time or cancel within 48 hours of the field trip.
The First Day of Classes
Prior to or on the first day of attendance, the student needs to turn in a
signed handbook acknowledgement to the SE office, KidzU staff, or
classroom teacher. KidzU Camp students must also have a signed field trip
consent and emergency form on file.
Breakfast and Lunch
Children need good food all year long, even when they’re not at school. This summer your
child can participate in the Summer Food Program, which provides a healthy breakfast and
lunch during their day at CTMS at no charge for children ages 18 and younger. There are no
costs or income guidelines to participate in the program. The Summer Food Program is
available June 5-August 11.
Summer Enrichment: If your student is enrolled in either a morning or afternoon Summer
Enrichment Course, they may arrive early (8:00AM for morning or 12:00PM for afternoon) or
stay late (until 12:00 PM for morning courses) so they can participate in the Summer Food
Program. Enrichment participants can begin eating at 8:00 AM and 11:30 AM for lunch.
KidzU: Breakfast begins at 7:30AM for those students enrolled in KidzU activities. Lunch is
served from 11:00 AM-11:30 AM. Beginning the week of August 14 the cafeteria will not be
serving so campers will need to bring a sack lunch until Thursday, Aug. 17. For the final
field trip on August 18, lunch will be served at NRH2O.
Field Trip and Swim Trip Info - KidzU Full Day and Daily Camp ONLY
Each week during summer KidzU Full Day Campers are eligible for a field trip. There is no
additional cost for any field trip, with the exception of the final all day field trip to NRH2O on
August 18. This year during the enrollment process, you can register for the weekly field trip
by selecting YES to be added to the list. There is a $25 field trip fee if the child’s space is not
canceled within 48 hours of the field trip or if the child does not show up on time or is a
no-show.
Camp shirts MUST be worn for each field trip to help identify children as part of KidzU. The
first camp shirt is free; if your child shows up for a field trip without a shirt, you will be
charged $10 for a new shirt.
We cannot allow parents to drop their child off at or pick up from any field trip venue,
including swimming. Absolutely no personal items can be brought on field trips, with the
exception of those items required for the field trip itself (i.e., socks to go bowling, swim
towel, swim socks, or lunch box).
Parents will be responsible for providing a sack lunch on field trip days. Lunches need to be
labeled with the child’s first and last name. Disposable lunch sacks are preferred, however,
lunch boxes can be brought for field trips. Any lunch boxes brought must be labeled with the
child’s first and last name and are the child’s responsibility. Any child who does not bring a
lunch for the field trip will be charged $10.
Swimming will be offered once per week and girls must wear a one piece bathing suit or
modest “tankini” that covers the abdomen area. Parents must sign up each week for
swimming. Sign-up sheets will be posted no earlier than Monday morning of each week.
Space for swimming is limited so please ensure your child wants to attend before signing your
child up.
If swimming takes place outside, KidzU will provide sunscreen for the students. Please make
sure to check the box on the handbook page that you allow KidzU to apply sunscreen to your
child. All sunscreen will be spray on. If your child has sensitive skin or specific allergies to
sunscreen, please bring a note from your child’s doctor and then provide the necessary
sunscreen from home. In order for KidzU staff to apply sunscreen to your child you must
provide spray-on sunscreen. Swim times will be in the afternoon. If your child is in an
afternoon Enrichment class or other summer program, he/she is not eligible to go
swimming.

found around your house. We will chat about the three R’s “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and how we can "up-cycle"
objects that might otherwise be thrown away. Take what you make. Keep it. Wear it. Use it. Give it as a gift.
Bring your imagination and let's turn trash into treasure. Trash supplied.
