Essays will be judged using following criteria:
•
How well does the essay reflect the issue involved?
•
Does the argument follow a logical progression?
•
How compelling is the conclusion?
•
How many resources have been used?
•
How good are the composition, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and scholarly
expression?
Rules:
•
Each graduate student may submit only one research essay.
•
Each essay must represent original research.
•
A well-composed and substantially illustrated research paper is expected.
•
Essays should be between 8-10 computer typed pages, excluding title page and
work cited.
•
Essays must be written in English, on A4 size paper, double-spaced, in twelve
point font, and in Times New Roman style. Two cm. margins on both sides are
required.
•
References must be written in accordance with the MLA style, 7th Edition.
•
Each essay must include a title page containing the following information:
Title
Student’s name (on title page only)
Name of university
Name of graduate programme
E-mail address
•
Electronic entries will not be accepted.
•
All entries must be unpublished work. A chapter of the entrants’ thesis/dissertation
will not be accepted.
•
Deadline for entry is 17 January 2012.
•
Two hardcopies should be sent by mail to the following address:

•
First, five essays will be short listed.
•
On an arranged date that will be announced later, highlights from the five short
listed research essays will be presented by the entrant him/herself in fifteen
minutes to the public constituting undergraduate students, graduate students and
academics.
•
After all five presentations, a final voting will be taken by all present in the
auditorium to establish the first, second and third place winners.
•
During the final voting, along with the panel of judges, all undergraduate and
graduate students, and academics can vote.
•
The winner essays will be published in the departmental journal. The editor of the
journal reserves the right to ask for editing.
•
There will also be surprise prizes.
•
There will be no cash prize.
