Mi nombre es Cesar. My family and I have been coming to The Mission for about six years. I will begin by saying that Jesus and The Mission have sustained us. A lot of people think that The Mission just helps the homeless and poor but they also help struggling hardworking families. There were many times when my wife and I would choose not to eat just so that our children could. If it had not been for the food that The Mission gave us we would have had nothing. I am not the type that likes to ask for help but my wife had heard about The Mission and thought we should try. My first time at The Mission we were welcomed with open arms and everyone treated us like family and I immediately felt at ease. The Mission has been there to help us not just with food but with school clothes, shoes, household goods, shampoo, soap and most of all in love and support. In the last three years I decided I would do all I could to start my own construction company. I have so much knowledge and experience in the field but I was getting tired of being short changed. I praise Jesus because this year, 2011, I can finally say that it is finally done. I have gotten some work and I know that God has more planned for us. I have not stopped and will not stop trying to better our lives. We have sacrificed everything to have our own business. We have had to work three times as hard. It isn’t easy but I know that all of this hard work will pay off and one day I will be able to give back to The Mission. I thank those of you that support this mission because I am living proof that you are making a difference in the lives of others. If you would like more information on Cesar and his business go to www.ksteelconstruction.com or contact The Mission. My name is BreAnne. I wanted to say a special THANKS to everyone who helped us get school clothes and school supplies. I was so happy when I got everything. I even got all my favorite colors. It has not been easy for my mom since we have been homeless but thanks to people like you we are making it. My name is Pedro. I am a single dad trying to make ends meet. I come to The Mission for our daily meals while I try and find work. Thank you for all you do for me and my little boy! This past week we reflected on 9/11 and we each remembered what we were doing that day So many lives lost. What I remember most was the unity. We were all One. All working together for one cause. It didn’t matter what we were doing or what plans we had. It all stopped at that very moment and we as Americans worked together. A Moment With You by Founding Sr. Pastor Thomas Beauregard I read a quote recently that said, “To be seventy years old is like climbing the Alps. You reach a snow-crowned summit, and see behind you the deep valley stretching miles and miles away, and before you other summits higher and whiter, which you may have strength to climb, or may not. Then you sit down and meditate and wonder which it will be.” It reminds me of the vision the Lord gave me for the city of Winter Haven and The Mission. Everyone working together for one cause: to bring the gospel of Jesus to all and as we work together as one, everyone’s needs would be met. In Acts chapter 4 verses 32-34 (The Message) it says… “The whole congregation of believers was united as one—one heart, one mind! They didn't even claim ownership of their own possessions. No one said, "That's mine; you can't have it. They shared everything…so it turned out that not a person among them was needy...” On September 19 I have the privilege of being 70 years of age. Last year on my birthday I experienced something I will never forget. I became very ill and was taken immediately to the hospital. I was in a coma and I was ready to go. I honestly thought my time was done. I felt that Papa was calling me home. But He chose to allow me to stay here on earth for reasons beyond my understanding. In Deuteronomy 15:10 (The Message), God reminds us that there will always be poor and needy among us but the key is how we as a community can come together to effectively help these individuals. The Mission is here to make connections between those who can meet needs and those who have needs to be met. I have officially been in ministry for half of my life: teaching children and youth, fostering boys, counseling many, visiting in prisons and hospitals, and feeding the hungry. I have truly seen Papa’s Grace throughout these years. I remember thinking to myself a long time ago that one day I would just get to a certain age and then go with Papa. Meeting needs can mean the saving of life not only physically, but also spiritually. We have committed ourselves, as a ministry, to helping people through their difficulties in life and, consequently, bringing them to the throne of God through Jesus Christ. I never imagined or even dreamed that Papa had so much more planned for me. I now have grandchildren. Jayden and Caleb have brought me back youth, life and strength. He gave me a family. I love the way the New International Readers Version puts it best. “I know the plans I have for you," announces the Lord. "I want you to enjoy life. I do not plan to harm you. I will give you hope for the years to come.” – Jeremiah 29:11 So what does it mean to me to be 70? LIFE! And what do I chose? Life!... Every bit of it. I praise Papa God for you my dear friends and beloved family. You have been there for me through the years. There is so much more to come. Shalom and Blessings to you! Thank you for your love and support and for spreading the word about The Mission through the community. You not only recognize the increasing needs, but also respond with generosity to meet those needs. Thank you for helping us to build a stronger, more effective ministry. I believe God has even greater things in store for The Mission as we approach 2012. The A/C units were not working correctly and the temperatures in each of our serving areas were above 105 degrees but Praise the Lord our volunteers kept on giving. Nothing stopped them from coming to The Mission and serving. We want to give a special thanks to all who served this summer. We know it was not easy. May the Lord Bless you greatly for all you do!
