RESEARCH
My research in Environmental & Soil Chemistry focuses on protecting our environment through
maintaining/improving soil and water quality. My publications and research grants reflect this. Particular
interests include: (1) environmental fate, transport, and ecotoxicity of engineered nanoparticles, (2) fate
and sorptive behavior of contaminants of emerging concerns, (3) characterization of organic matter
including biochars and their roles in sustainable agriculture and environmental protection, (4) application
of advanced analytical and microscopic instruments in environmental & soil science research, and (5)
food safety.
We have published over 350 refereed journal articles. The citations on our work currently exceed 15,200
with my h-index at 62. I am among the “Highly Cited Researchers 2014” identified by Thomson
Reuters, showing the impact and significance of our research. I have been recognized many times for our
scientific research program nationally and internationally (see the award section).
