

How can you see a list of suggested spellings for a particular word? Right-click the word
THESAURUS

synonym - words with similar meaning

Right-click, go to Synonyms and choose appropriate word
SAVE VS SAVE AS

save - saving the document under the current filename and location

save as - saving the document with a new name and/or new location
CLOSE VS EXIT

close - closes the document but not the program

exit - closes the document and exits the program

null screen - when the program is running but no documents are open
MARGINS

Margins (definition) – distance from the edges of the paper


FORMATTING TEXT

What must you do first before formatting text? Select text

To open the font dialog box, click the font dialog box launcher on the Home tab

Font - design and appearance of characters
 Examples: Arial, Times New Roman, Tahoma

Font style - bold, italics, neither or both

Point size - the height of the letters

Font color - the color of the characters

Underline style - the type of underline

Underline color - the color of underline

Effects - subscript, superscript, strikethrough, double strikethrough, ALL CAPS, SMALL CAPS

LINE SPACING

Must select the text to change

Line spacing (definition) – amount of white space between lines of text

Home tab, click the dialog box launcher for the Paragraph group

Six options: single, 1.5 lines, double, exactly, at least, multiple
HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT

Horizontal alignment - how the text aligns on the page in relation to the left and right margins

Must select the text to change

Use the buttons on the on the Home tab in the Pargraph group

4 options: Left, right, center, justify
BULLETS AND NUMBERING

Must select the text to change

Add bullets or numbers to make lists more attractive and easier to read

Use the buttons on the Home tab in the Paragraph group

To change to a different bullet style that is not in the list, choose Define New Bullet

To change to a different number format that is not in the list, choose Define New Number

CLIPART

What two clipart items can you not add to a Word document? Videos and audio

Clipart button is on the Insert tab, Illustrations group

Why do you need to change the text wrapping feature? Helps to move it around easier

To change text wrapping, select picture, click the Wrap Text button on the Drawing Tools:
Format tab and choose IN=n front of text

3 steps:
1. Type keyword(s) for clipart needed
2. Choose type of results (Illustrations or photographs)
3. Place checkmark in front of Include Office.com content (this will enable the program then
to search online at Microsoft’s webpage for more clipart)

To insert, right-click and choose Insert OR drag the picture to the Word document

Use the corner handles to resize the picture proportionally
WORDART

Wordart (definition) – used to create stylized text with various special effects

Wordart button is on the Insert tab, Text group

Choose style and add text to box

Drawing Tools: Format tab gives many options to format WordArt. List the options:
Shape fill, outline, effects
Position
Text fill, outline, effects
Wrap text
Text direction
Order/rotate
Align text
Size
UNDO AND REDO


Undo – used to undo your previous action


