Namaste!
Join Jo Bradshaw for an awesome weekend of fun and fresh air in the Brecon Beacons!
We’ll be helping her raise funds for her ascent of Mount Everest in 2015 with 360
Expeditions in aid of the Duke of Edinburgh’s award.
Why do this?
You will be helping Jo achieve her Everest dream and be supporting the tremendous Duke of Edinburgh’s
Award.
You will have the opportunity to spend time in the company of someone who has already climbed Mount
Everest.
Perhaps you are considering a major adventure of your own. You will want to minimise the risks that
altitude, extremes of weather, camping, and sleep and tummy problems might put in your way. You will
also want to know about fitness, clothing & equipment, nutrition & hydration, and mountain walking at
night. Our experienced mountain and expedition leaders will give you the orientation and advice you need.
And if all of this was not enough, you should come because the weekend will be full of fun and laughter. We
are assembling a great gang of people, providing guided daylight and dark-through-dawn mountain walks,
offering mentored shopping at Cotswold Outdoor, a having a Nepalese meal around a campfire under the
Brecon night sky.
How does it work?
Think of the weekend as a rolling conversation. It will be full of learning and laughter.
We will gather on the Friday evening at our bunkhouse base, just outside Brecon. During the evening we
will orientate everyone to the weekend’s activities, and Jo will talk about how her journey to Everest began
and how it is now shaping up.
During the evening we will also refine the agenda for our time together so that we can be sure that
everyone gets what they need from the weekend. Participants looking to research or prepare for their
own adventures might want to explore more about self-management & safety, cost effective clothing &
equipment choices, dealing with heat, cold & altitude, health & hygiene, hydration & nutrition, camping
skills, and working with guides & porters.
On Saturday, our walk through stunning scenery will be representative of a typical trek day. In the late
afternoon there will be an opportunity for mentored shopping at Cotswold Outdoor in Brecon. In the
evening we will enjoy a Nepalese meal around a camp fire and hear an Everest sumiteer tell their story.
Saturday night will be spent in tents. We will get up in the early hours of Sunday morning for a darkthrough-dawn ascent of Pen y Fan, southern UK’s highest peak. This can be a magical experience and
replicates summit night on many of the world’s highest peaks. Much is usually learned on this walk!

Travel, accommodation, and feeding
You will make your own way by car to our bunkhouse base, just outside Brecon. Participants travelling by
train will be collected from Abergavenny railway station.
The bunkhouse has ample communal space, drying room and showers; and provides single-sex dormitories
with comfortable single berth sleeping platforms with mattresses and pillows. We will sleep there on the
Friday, and in tents (3-person tents shared between two) nearby on the Saturday night.
We will provide a cold buffet on the Friday evening, refreshments and snacks throughout the weekend, and
the makings (on a self-help basis) for breakfasts and packed lunches on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday
evening we will have a Nepalese meal (at personal expense) around a campfire.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own alcoholic drinks as we will only be providing a soft drinks.
What kit do I need?
We will provide a clothing & kit list in the joining pack once your payment has cleared.
We are able to provide some items on free loan, and we will schedule some mentored shopping at Cotswold
Outdoor in Brecon for the Saturday afternoon. This is a popular session and can save you a lot of money!
