Expectations for practice gear and uniform wear It is very important that we function as a team. There are many things that go into that. One of these things is the attire that is worn for practices and games. It was not by chance that the word “uniform” was used when describing clothes worn by a team. There are different acceptable ways to wear gear/uniforms. In some cases, there is a “fashionable” way to wear items as compared to a “functional” way to wear items. When these two ideas are conflicting, we will always side with the functionality use of gear/uniforms. The above ideas have provided the motivation for these guidelines for wearing of such gear/uniforms while part of the VHHS baseball program. Out of respect for our team, the school, the community and the game itself, we will expect players to adhere to certain guidelines. I am sure there will be things that come up that are not on the list. It is impossible to anticipate every possible situation regarding uniform wear. We will address those situations if/when they happen. If a player desires to wear something that is not mentioned below or wants to wear gear in a way that the rest of the team wears, he should consult the coach. HAT - A VHHS issued baseball hat must be worn at all practices. In the event that we practice outside when it is cold, stocking hat/skull caps can be worn. a. Hats were designed to be worn to block the sun. That is how we will wear them. Brims should have a slight downward bend to assist in blocking the sun or glare. b. The “flat brim” or “inverted brim” has become a fashion fad on various levels of baseball. This is fine when away from VHHS practices/games using a hat other than our game hat. When representing the VHHS baseball program, players should adhere to the above description in letter “a”. UNDERSHIRTS - All shirts will have sleeves. To promote proper arm health, long sleeves will be worn at all indoor/ outdoor practices. It is common to wear some type of underarmour shirt covered with a VH baseball shirt. Every effort should be made to wear VH baseball shirts. Otherwise, royal blue, white, gray/silver and black are all appropriate colors. There are times where indoor temperature may dictate short sleeve shirts. Player should always talk to a coach before taking off the long sleeve shirt. For games, we would like our guys to wear royal blue shirts. Players will receive a badger short sleeve royal blue shirt as part of the game day pack. This undershirt will be work as the top layer under the uniform top. PANTS – Baseball practice pants or some version of sweat pants are appropriate. That includes nylon or wicking type pants as well as long as they follow the color scheme described above. Players are not to wear shorts unless specifically told to do so or given permission by a coach. Our game pants will be the “teamworks” brand this year. This is a change from previous years. Teamworks allowed us to get custom sized game pants to promote a better fit. Players will receive a pair as part of their game day pack. Players that wish to order additional pairs will be given that opportunity. Players are not to wear other brands of pants to games. OthersSpikes/Turfs – Must be mostly royal blue. Specific brand is not important. You can go to Rogan’s or Sports 11 and tell them you from VHHS and they will usually give you a discount. Necklaces/Bracelets/Earrings – These are not allowed for safety reasons and should not be worn at baseball. Eye Black – This can be used on sunny days. However, it should be used as intended and not as a decoration. That means, a thin strip below the eyes not extending outside the eye or across the nose. Wrist bands – A single wrist band worn on the wrist or forearm is acceptable. This should follow the uniform color scheme, some combination of royal, black, white, gray/silver. Sunglasses – Outfielders should have sunglasses available to them. In some cases, this would be a good idea of infielders (especially 3rd basemen on our field). However, jus like the items above, they should be worn as a tool to assist in seeing during play. They are not decorations and should not be worn on top of the hat during practice and/or games.
