In the summer of 1816 Shelley
was in Switzerland with Jane
Clairmont, Lord Byron and
John Polidori. One rainy day
the group entertained
themselves by reading a book
of ghost stories.
Lord Byron suggested that they
all should try to write their own
horror story.
It was at that time that Mary
Shelley began to work on what
would become her most
famous novel, Frankenstein,
or the Modern Prometheus.

Dr. Victor was born in Naples.
When he was eleven years old he became interested in
natural philosophy by reading the works of Cornelio
Agrippa, Paracelso and Alberto Magno.
Then he devoted himself to mathematics and science.
A very important event affected the life of Victor, namely
his mother’s death and he, my creator,
Started to study death.
He began to consider the possibility of creating a man who
could be given perfect health, long life and high
intelligence.
Unfortunately ,Victor created me…
‘’An appalling monster’’…so people called and call me me.
He looked at me scared and left me. I decided to steal the
diary of Victor and flee.
I killed my creator’s brother, William.
Later, while Victor was on holiday in France I met him and I
told him that I had committed murder.
I also told him that I had helped the De Lacey family,
bringing them during the night vegetables and firewood
without being seen.
When I decided to make my presence known, terrified by my
appearance they sent me away violently and they left the
house. I felt terribly hurt.
Nobody wanted to be my friend. I
was alone and I asked Victor to
create a woman like me, but he
refused so I decided to make his life
impossible, just as he had done with
me.
People have made me a
monster as they rejected me.
