Redbox Movie Club Introduction This movie club was created to serve members of Fatwallet. It’s mission is to provide timely movie codes that can be used to rent a movie at the lowest possible cost, through member donations. Currently this is in a beta trial using FW PM and/or email to request codes. Soon, a new web site will go live that will automate/streamline many key functions, most importantly to provide instant codes with a click of a button (currently there is a delay since the process is all manual). Glossary • • • • • Member – A registered user of the movie club Credit – This is the currency a member receives for monetary donations (also movie codes). A member receives credit that expires 30 days from purchase. Each credit can be converted to 1 free movie code at anytime during that 30-day period. It will always be for a FREE movie, never 1.25 off or other discount Free Code – This is a unique, one-time use code that can only be used online or in-app for 1 free movie (DVD) rental (value is $1.50). 1 credit can be exchanged for 1 free code. Expiration date on that code will vary… from same-day, up to 10 days out. Codes can be applied against a Blu-ray rental, you will just pay the difference (about 50 cents) for the upgrade Non-free Code – this is a unique, one-time use code that can only be used online or in-app for 1 movie rental. Net cost of the rentals vary depending on the code, for example a $1.25 off code has a net cost of 27 cents for 1 day. Non-free codes are given out at no cost or credits Target usage date – the date the member actually plans to use a code to rent a movie. This must be given with each request to exchange credit for code. Members can provide multiple target dates. A1: Google Wallet is strongly preferred, but PayPal is also available (NOTE: any Paypal fees must be paid by the member by choosing the Friends/Family option at checkout – if not, your donation will be refunded immediately). Q2: What are the different plans available for Premium members? A2: Premium members can prepay for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months in advance, but monthly limits (6) still expire every 30 days, on the day of the month that first donation was made Q3: What if I donate money, and afterwards I change my mind? A3: You are never under any contract/obligation to continue donating. Unfortunately there are also no refunds for any reason, period. This includes if Redbox stops the code system or Redbox goes out of business. If you don’t agree with these terms, then you should not join the club Q4: Do credits expire in 30 days from donation, or at the end of the calendar month? A4: Premium member credits expire on a rolling 30 day period, starting from the date of first donation. If you signed up for a quarterly or higher plan, your 30-day period will reset on the same day of the month each month Q5: Ok, I am ready to sign up to be a Premium member, what do I do? A5: Send a Private Message to mulox on FW. When requesting to join, please specify which payment method you plan to use, and you will get the associated email to send payment to. By making a donation, you are agreeing to be bound to all of the terms and conditions of this club as posted here DRAFT - CONFIDENTIAL - PLEASE DO NOT SHARE Redbox Movie Club FAQ Q6: What happens if I request a code and my plans suddenly change? Am I stuck wasting those codes? A6: Members can re-donate free codes back into pool for credit (ex. plans change) as long as cutoff time is met. That credit will still expire in the current 30-day period the member is in. Q7: I am a very frequent renter, so 6 codes every 30 days is not enough for me. Any options? A7: Premium members can "reload" as many times as they want for $1 - no need to wait until the end of their 30-day period Q8: I don’t watch that many movies per month, and don’t see myself ever reaching 6 movies in a 30 day period. What are my options? A8: If you watch at least 2 movies per 30 day period, the $1 plan is still a great value at 50 cents per movie, vs. paying full price of $1.30 (with tax). Any unused credits will be donated into the pool. The only other option is to hold out for a $1.25 off code (net cost $0.27 per movie) but those are becoming very rare, and only available to use on weekends (Friday-Sunday) Q9: OK I made my donation, how/when should I request codes? A9: Members should make requests 24 hours in advance of target date, or earlier. Sameday requests might be honored, but are NEVER guaranteed (see example scenarios for details on how target dates work) Q10: When I make a request, what kind of expiration date will my code have? A10: You will NOT get an expiration date with your code(s)... that is by design. However, the expiration of code(s) given will always match or beat the target usage date requested (see example scenarios below for details on how target dates work) DRAFT - CONFIDENTIAL - PLEASE DO NOT SHARE Redbox Movie Club FAQ Q11: I chose the annual plan and pre-paid for 1 year in advance. I understand I get 6 credits allocated every 30-day period, but what happens if I use all 6 in the first week… can I “borrow” from future months’ credits? A11: No, unfortunately it does not work like that (for now anyway). Your options are: 1) Wait until your 30-day period ends, so your credit balance can reset back to 6 2) Purchase a one-time pack of 6 codes for $1 3) Upgrade to Sponsor level ($5 minimum donation per month) which provides no restrictions on dates* *Must prepay for a minimum of 3 months to take advantage. Monthly sponsor plans are not eligible. Q12: How do the surplus credits work? A12: Keep in mind this will not happen as often as it did in the past, but when it does, we will follow a certain priority order based on levels. If you donated at least $2 in the past (even if you are not currently active!), you are eligible to receive “free” free codes whenever there is a surplus. The priority order on who gets codes first is: 1) Active Sponsor, annual, semi, quarterly, monthly (in that order) 2) Active Premium, pre-paid, annual, semi, quarterly, monthly (in that order) 3) Inactive Sponsor (no current donations, $5 minimum past donation) 4) Inactive Premium (no current donations , $2 minimum past donation) 5) Basic members, by rank (Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze… in that order) Q13: What types of codes do I get? Is it always a free DVD rental, or sometimes just 50 cents off? A13: When you exchange a credit for a code, it will ALWAYS be for 1 free DVD rental (value $1.50). It will never be $1.25 off or other non-free type. So if you want to rent a Blu-ray, you will pay the difference (50 cents). DRAFT - CONFIDENTIAL - PLEASE DO NOT SHARE Redbox Movie Club - Scenarios Example Scenario – Frequent Movie renter • • • • • • • Donate $1 on July 20 - Your credit balance is set to 6, expires Aug 20 Request 2 codes with a target date of Friday, 7/22 You are given 2 FREE movie codes that expire on or after 7/22 Your new credit balance is now 4 You request 4 more codes for 7/25 Your credit balance is down to 0 You reload for another $1 and your credit balance is back up to 6.... and so on Example Scenario – Casual Movie renter • • • • • • • Donate $1 on July 20 - Your credit balance is set to 6, expires Aug 20 Request 3 codes for Friday, 7/22 You are given 3 FREE movie codes that expire on or after 7/22 Your new credit balance is now 3 Aug 20 comes and your 3 remaining credits expire (donated into the pool) Your credit balance is down to 0 Your net cost per movie rental this period was 33 cents (1-day rentals assumed) NOTE: Keep in mind that as of recent, $1.25 off codes have all but vanished, so even in the 2nd scenario, you need to understand that you are better off than paying the full cost of $1.30 per movie. Basically, if you rent at least 2 movies per month, this plan will still be cost-effective for you. If you rent 1 movie or less per month, then this plan is NOT for you. DRAFT - CONFIDENTIAL - PLEASE DO NOT SHARE Redbox Movie Club - Scenarios Example Scenarios with Target Dates Example 1, single date • Today is Wed 7/20 and you request 2 codes for Friday, 7/22 • Your name is put on a list – this is the code queue • You are given 2 FREE movie codes on THURSDAY 7/21 via email/PM • The codes you are given will expire on or after Friday 7/22 • NOTE: you will not be given the actual expiration date, so it’s absolutely critical that you use your codes on or before your target date Example 2, multiple dates • Today is Wed 7/20 and you request 2 codes for Fri, 7/22, 2 codes for Sat 7/23 and 2 codes for Sun 7/24 • Your name is put on a list – this is the code queue • You are given 2 FREE movie codes on THURSDAY 7/21 via email/PM • The codes you are given will expire on or after 7/22 • You are given 2 FREE movie codes on FRIDAY 7/22 via email/PM • The codes you are given will expire on or after 7/23 • You are given 2 FREE movie codes on SAT 7/23 via email/PM • The codes you are given will expire on or after 7/24 • NOTE: you will not be given the actual expiration date, so it’s absolutely critical that you use your codes on or before your target date NOTE: The target usage date system has been in place since January 2016, so it should not be new to anyone. It has been proven very effective at eliminating code waste, by ensuring we are courteous to other members. For example, in case there are multi-use or other codes that become available between now and your target date. DRAFT - CONFIDENTIAL - PLEASE DO NOT SHARE Redbox Movie Club - Scenarios Example Scenarios with Multiple Target Dates NOTE: It does help mulox a LOT when you request everything all in advance (if possible) vs. multiple requests. Example 3, multiple dates and range with uncertainty • Today is Mon 7/18 and you know you will probably want to rent a 2 movies between now and Sunday, but you struggling with how to make a proper date request • You think about it, and most likely you will rent 1 movie between Wed-Fri and another Fri-Sun • So a good request would be 1 code for Wed, 7/20, 1 code for Fri 7/22 • Your name is put on a list – this is the code queue • You are given 1 FREE movie code on TUESDAY 7/19 via email/PM • The codes you are given will expire on or after 7/20 • You are given 1 FREE movie code on THURSDAY 7/21 via email/PM • The codes you are given will expire on or after 7/22 PLANS CHANGE? Ok so what if you can't use your Wed code until Thur/Fri? MOST likely your code will have a few days before it expires, so you will be ok 99% of the time. In the 1% chance you happen to get a same-day expire (in this example it would expire Wed, but your plans changed and you now want to use on Thur/Fri), you can “exchange” it for a code with a later expire (as long as you are within cutoff times). You can do an exchange by simply sending an email/PM to mulox, asking to re-donate your code back into the pool and request another with later expire. DRAFT - CONFIDENTIAL - PLEASE DO NOT SHARE Redbox Movie Club - Scenarios More example Scenarios with Target Dates Example Requested Target Usage On Req Time Date Criteria Date met? Honored? given Time given Advance request Monday 1pm Friday Yes Yes Thurs 9pm Sameday request, early Friday 1pm Friday No Yes Friday 10pm Sameday request, late Friday 9pm Friday No No Sat noon NOTE: Some folks request: "I need 5 codes to use by Friday" meaning they want to flexibility to use however many they want between now and then. However, that is not how the target system works! You must provide specific dates, since distributions are always given out 1 day before target dates. In this example, the user would get all 5 codes the night before, Thursday, when they may have wanted to use some during the week.
