MISS NUGENT SAYS THANK YOU!
Miss Nugent would like to say a massive thank you to all
of the parents who baked for her Cake Sale, which was
held on Monday and Tuesday after school this week.
Miss Nugent was quite simply overwhelmed by the wave
of support that all of our parents and carers gave, in
terms of the wonderful cakes that were brought in (and
beautiful daffodils). Thank you so so much! She has
raised a magnificent £160 so far!
Miss Nugent is running the London Marathon in aid of a
charity called Phab kids! They are a remarkable
organisation that set up residential experiences, as well
as providing fun and challenging clubs across the UK for
disabled children. All of the money she raises will go
towards this wonderful charity. There are still daffodils
available on the front desk in the office, should you wish
to brighten up your home and help a very good cause!
SPELLING WORKSHOP
Thank you to all of our parents and carers who came to
our spelling workshop on Thursday morning. We hope
you enjoyed coming in and that the workshop will help
you to guide your children through some of the more
tricky spelling patterns.
NITS – REGULAR CHECKS STILL NEEDED!
HOCKEY & CROSSS COUNTRY
We have been notified by some of our parents
that they are still treating their children’s hair for
head lice. We encourage any children with longer
hair to keep it tied back, in line with our uniform
policy. Several parents have suggested having
two days marked on your calendar at home,
whereby you check your child’s hair on those
days every week. In this way, we will all be
aware if a problem arises and can take the
necessary evasive action.
Last Friday, we won the Hockey against the Richard
Lander Cluster at Penair School. Both of our teams
played really well, with the A team winning by one
goal from the B team, and finishing on the same
points. Mr Brandreth said that the children showed
fantastic sportsmanship.
In the Cross Country all of our children did extremely
well in pretty miserable conditions! Even the
spectators were covered in mud by the end of the
race! Very well done to our five runners who were
placed and have now qualified for the final next
Thursday. Mr Brandreth was so proud of all of our
runners, who were very brave and who showed
remarkable determination, in truly challenging
conditions. Well done Mount Hawke Academy!
MARTIAL ARTS ACHIEVEMENT
ISAAC & MARTHA’S SWIMATHON
Oscar C in Year 5 took part in the Irish Open last
weekend in Dublin. It is one of the biggest martial
arts competitions in the world with over 4000
fighters. Oscar did incredibly well, winning the
teams ‘Under 12 years’ category. They received a
large trophy and €250 in prize money to share with
the team. He also got a third in the ‘9-10 years’
category, in which 77 fighters took part. Oscar
and his family had a fantastic weekend. In two
weeks’ time they are going to Birmingham to
hopefully
qualify
for
the
ICO
World
Championships, which will be held towards the
end of the year.
Ashley P in Year 3 also went along to this
competition with his family, and fought extremely
well. He is hoping that in the future he may be
able to win a belt (or two!)
Both boys were interviewed by Spotlight on
Thursday regarding their achievements and will
appear on tonight’s Spotlight programme on BBC 1
at 6:30pm. Do watch if you want to see a taste of
what they have been doing.
Isaac and Martha H will be taking part in this year’s
swimathon, on Sunday 9th April. Swimathon 2017 is
supporting Marie Curie, a charity providing care and
support to people living with a terminal illness at the
end of their lives. The donations made to this page
will help Marie Curie to care for more people across
the UK living with any terminal illness, and their
families, at the time when they need it most.
To help raise some funds, Isaac and Martha will be
holding a cake sale at the end of school on Thursday
16th March. Any cake donations would be greatly
received. You can also donate directly to their
fundraising page by using the following link:https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/swimathon2017-Isaac-andmartha?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=shar
