1. Objective
The objective of this study is to measure the puncture resistance, tear resistance and
tensile properties of a foil composite material.
2. Samples Supplied
One sample of foil composite was supplied by Sekisui for property testing.
The identification of the sample was:
Client Reference: Thermobreak No-Clad
Description: Reinforced Aluminium Foil Composite
Colour: Silver
Nominal Composition: PE Bonding Layer / Glass Cloth Reinforcement / Aluminium Foil /
UV Protection
3. Testing Undertaken
The following test methods were used:
Puncture testing was undertaken according to ASTM D 4833 (Rod Puncture)
Tear testing was undertaken according to ASTM D 751 Procedure B (Tongue Tear Method)
Tensile testing was undertaken according to ASTM D 751 Procedure A (Grab Method)
4. Method of Sampling.
Specimens were taken from across the entire sample. For the tear and tensile tests,
specimens were taken in perpendicular directions in line with the edges of the sample,
and assigned as Direction 1 and Direction 2.
