En Ville
During your French lessons, you will learn about places in town, directions, opinions, as well as drinks and
snacks. You will receive a vocabulary from your teacher to help you with your home learning project.
In this home learning project you will:
Week 1: Reinforce you learning of French words for places in town
Week 2: Understand directions
Week 3: Reinforce learning on how to say where you are and where you are going (around town)
You can complete your work in the style of a leaflet by hand, using Microsoft Word or PowerPoint.

Week 1 Tasks
En Ville/ Les Endoits
Core:
 Using the handout with vocab lists ‘en ville + les endoits’, design a dream French town.
 You must use the vocabulary lists to say in French what place there are (=il y a….) and there
aren’t (il n’y a pas…) in your town.

Extension:
o Use a dictionary to find more words for places in town and include them in your leaflet
Une Interview
Core:
 Imagine that you interview a famous French celebrity in your dream town. Using the hand
out with both sections of the vocabulary list ‘en ville’ (in town) and ‘les endoits’ (places),
write an interview asking the celebrity what places there are or are not in the town they
come from.
 You can make up the answers; however you must ask him/her what places there are/aren’t
using ‘Est-ce qu’il y a…?’ (is there/are there…?)
 Write at least 5 questions and answers in French

Extension:
o Include the following words in your interviewee’s answers:

Core:
 Use the hand out with the vocabulary list section ‘les endroits’ (places)
 Imagine that you are at the airport and have to wait for your flight
 Create a word search using the French words (at least 8) for places in town.
Extension:
o Find more words for places in town and add them to your word search.

Week 2 Task
Les Directions
Core:
 Use the vocabulary sheet with the section ‘les directions’ (directions)
 Using the map of your imaginary French town, write the directions for a treasure hunt.
 Decide in which building the treasure map will be hidden and where the hunt will start
from. Add the starting point to your map.
 Use the vocabulary list to write at least 10 instructions for the treasure hunt. Each
instruction must start with ‘tu vas/vous alllez’ (you go… (formal/informal)) and ‘tu
tournes/vous tournez’ (you turn… (formal/informal))
Extension:
o In French, include measurements in your instructions. Add a scale to your map so that it
can be accurately measure.
o Get someone at home to complete your treasure hunt. You may have to teach them some
French.

Week 3 Task
Où es-tu? Où vas-tu ?
Core:
 Using the handout with both sections of the vocabulary list ‘où es-tu?’ + ‘où vas-tu?’ write
a diary of your visit to your imaginary French town. You want to make the most of your
visit to France and so want to see plenty of places. Have at least 3 activities for each day of
the visit. (5 days minimum visit!)
 You must include the date and day of the week in French for each diary entry
 French time phrases to say what time you started and finished activities/visits.
 Finish each day by writing about what you plan to do the next day, using the phrases ‘je
vais au/à l’/à la/aux’ (I am going to)
Reminder:
Mind your prepositions : au/à l’/à la/aux’ all mean either at or to
Au+masculine noun (eg. Au restaurant)
à la + feminine noun (eg. à la piscine)
à l’ + noun starting with vowel or an ‘h’ (eg. à l’église or à l’hôpital)
aux + plural noun (eg. aux magasins)
Extension:
o Calculate how many hours you spent visiting places on your trip
