Quarter 4 Book Report

Book: I Am Number Four
Author: Pittacus Lore
Pages: 496
1 sentence for a cause and effect relationship
that occurs in the book.
Because John was the new kid in school and seemed a little bit
different, Mark would play pranks on him, like putting cow
manure in his locker.
2 sentences with two words that you figured
out by using context clues. You must include
what clues helped you figure out what the
words meant.
I learned what the words “protrude” and “gleaming” means
through context clues. Protrude means sticking out, and
Gleaming means shining.
“…in that instant the blade of a sword, long and gleaming, made
of a shining white metal that is not found on Earth, comes
through the door and sinks deeply into the man’s chest. It
protrudes six inches out through his back, and is quickly pulled
free.
A theme in I Am Number Four is good versus evil. John and Henri
are part of the good Loriens and they battles the evil
Mogadorians. The Mogs are motivated by conquering the Loriens
and planet Earth, however, the good Loriens are trying to save
Earth from a battle humans could never win by themselves.
The conflict in I Am Number Four is that John is running from the
Mogs who are planning to kill him, and preparing himself to fight
them. John has to learn how to use his Legacies properly in order
to have a chance at fighting! At the end of the book, John is able
to fight off the Mogs with the help of Henri and his mortal friends.
They work together by fighting as a unit in order to defeat the
Mogs.
I predicted that Bernie Kosar was really an alien! He was a super
smart dog and could understand English! A real dog can’t do
that! John would run faster than the speed of light to school, and
Bernie Kosar would always keep up. Bernie Kosar turned into a
huge, fighting alien at the right time to help keep John and his
friends safe.
Pittacus Lore writes in first-person. This was Pittacus Lore’s first
novel in the Lorien Legacies series. Pittacus Lore is planet
Lorien's ruling Elder. He has been on Earth for the last twelve
years. He is preparing for the war that will decide Earth's
fate. His book has turned into a movie.
This book reminds me of another book, The Hunger Games. In
both books, the main characters want to have a normal life. In I
Am Number Four, John just wants to have a girlfriend, real
friends, and be allowed to stay in one place. In The Hunger
Games, Katniss wants to live in a world without the stress of
going to reapings every year to see another child go into the
Games. On the other hand, these two books are different. For
example, Katniss is a real human who does not have real powers.
John is an alien from Lorien who is waiting for his Legacies (or
powers) to arrive once he is old enough.
3 sentences explaining the theme of the book.
4 sentences describing a conflict and resolution
in your book.
5 sentences explaining inferences or
predictions you made using context clues. You
must include what clues helped you make these
inferences/predictions.
6 sentence about the author.
7 sentences comparing and contrasting this
book to another one or to a real world
situation.
8 sentences summarizing the book.
9 sentences description of a characterphysical, mental, emotional descriptions,
character's motives, words, thoughts.
I Am Number Four focuses on John Smith and his guardian, Henri.
John, or Number Four, is a fifteen-year-old high school student
who is next in line to die by the hands of the evil Mogadorians, or
“Mogs.” The novel begins when Number Three is killed, and Henri
and John move to a small town in Ohio. John is tired of running,
tired of being part of a battle he didn’t start over a planet he
doesn’t remember, and more than ready for a normal life -- one
that would include staying in one place, making friends, and even
finding a girlfriend. He’s also tired of waiting for his Legacies -special powers that he and the other children are destined to
inherit from their parents -- to kick in. Once the Lorien children
have matured and come into their full power, they are destined to
fight and defeat the Mogadorians, who now have plans to
conquer and destroy Earth. John meets Sarah, a pretty girl who
later becomes his girlfriend, and Sam, an alien-obsessed nerd
who saves John’s life. Together with Henri, Sam, and Sarah, they
are able to save themselves and their small Ohio town, from the
Mogs.
Also known as Number Four, John Smith has a talent for blending
in. He lives with his guardian, Henri, and they can’t risk being
exposed as aliens. So far, John and Henri have crisscrossed the
country to try to stay hidden from the Mogadorians. John is
constantly watching his every move to stay hidden. In his new
town, Paradise, Ohio, John meets Sarah, and finally has a reason
to stay in one place. He falls in love with her, and can’t stand the
thought of leaving her. Not being able to tell Sarah his big secret
is torturing him! He just wants to fit in. For the first time in his
life, John is preparing to fight the Mogs and finally live his life,
safely, with Sarah and his new friends.
10 Draw a picture of a significant part of the
book and write a 10 sentence description of the
drawing and the significance it has to the plot
or setting, or characters of the book.
This picture is of John and Sarah in cooking class. This is really
significant to the characters because John had a crush on Sarah
since the day he saw her. When they were paired up together in
class, he finally had an excuse to talk to her. During their time in
cooking class, John and Sarah would joke around and get to know
each other. This was the beginning of their relationship! They
fell in love during cooking class. This picture is also important to
the setting. At the end of the novel, John, Sarah, Henri, Mark, and
Sam hid in the cooking room from the Mogs. They put the
refrigerator up against the door to keep the bad aliens out. John
told Sarah to hide in there while he fought the Mogs so she could
stay safe.
