FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Baltimore, MD) Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s Eastern Region will open its 82 nd annual regional
convention at the Hilton Baltimore on Thursday, April 24, 2014 and will bring over 915 registrants and
almost half as many attendees from 159 chapters from New England to Virginia, and international
chapters from: Bermuda, Germany, Liberia, South Africa and United Kingdom.
“This year’s theme is ‘Reconciling Leadership & Brotherhood’ with the intent to provide opportunities
for each attendee to reconcile within themselves that fraternal bonds do not have to be sacrificed for the
sake of leadership and vice versa,” said R. Anthony Mills, Eastern Region Vice President. “We’re
pleased to offer our attendees an opportunity to participate in our ‘Life, Leadership & Brotherhood’
workshop series intended to bring about discussions of best practices we can take back to our chapters
and communities.”
This will be the first convention under the leadership of R. Anthony Mills, who was installed at the
organization’s international convention in Austin, TX last year. This convention will also be the final
one for Brandon R. Johnson – a student of Morgan State University – who serves as the Assistant Vice
President (a position specifically held for the fraternity’s college members). Johnson’s successor will be
elected and installed during the convention.
"It has been such a pleasure to serve the brothers of AlphaEast as the 55th Eastern Region
Assistant Vice President! I have enjoyed gaining such an amazing fraternal experience through
so many brothers who have mentored me during this process,” said Brandon Johnson, Assistant
Vice President. “After leaving the Board of Directors, I will be finishing my last semester at
Morgan State University and continuing a career path in student affairs in higher education. It
has definitely been a pleasure to serve this awesome body.”
The convention has a full agenda of workshops and social activities for its registered members over the
course of the four days in Baltimore.
