Lawn Brown Spots have a number of causes: lack of
water, insects, rabbits or fungus. Visit with one of our plant
doctors to determine how to identify the cause in your yard.
Powdery Mildew continues to persist - use Bonide
Sulfur Plant Fungicide, Bonide Funginol or Ortho
Disease B Gon.
Codling Moths will have their second hatching soon.
Use Tanglefoot's Codling Moth Traps to monitor
when that hatching occurs. Then apply Captain Jack's
Dead Bug Brew, according to the label, to protect your
apple crop from their hungry larvae.

known as
coneflower
Coneflower is a great
Nevada basic for your
perennial garden. This
versatile plant is ideal
for attracting butterflies
and has a long lasting
flower. I leave mine up
in my garden over the
winter; the seed heads feed the birds and provide winter interest.
It is available in many colors but the old fashioned Magnus is one
of my favorites with its pink flowers. Plant these for July blooms in
your perennial garden.

June High Desert Bird-of-theMonth: California Quail
The California Quail is a medium
quail with a distinctive, curled black
head plume and white-bordered
black throat. Its breast is gray and
belly is sharply scaled. The flanks
are brown with white streaks and its
back is olive-brown. Legs and feet
are gray.

Quicky Recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes
Cut unripened tomatoes as
shown ... heat large skillet to
medium high with oil, butter or
bacon grease covering bottom
of skillet.
Dredge tomato slices in flour,
cornmeal or breadcrumbs after
dipping into a beaten egg. Place in hot skillet and brown quickly.
When golden, remove and put on paper towel to take off excess
oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Enjoy!
