June-July 2012 There are three basic reasons we exist as a church. To BELIEVE, To BELONG, To BE LIGHT BELIEVE - To have a faith relationship with God. Our church wants to know God, trust God and love God. As we worship and learn about Him we want to grow in our faith. BELONG - To have a love relationship with the family of God. Our church wants to express love throughout the faith community in relational and tangible ways. BE LIGHT - To have a redemptive relationship with the world. Our church wants to make a difference locally and globally with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Check out our Believe-Belong-Be light video here http://vimeo.com/17007726 As men of our church we must practice Believe, Belong, and Be Light in our community. In part we do this when we invite men to come to our events, to attend our church, and to make them feel welcome when they are here. Joshua 24:15 (NIV) 15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” _______________________________________________________________ Please keep the Mexico Mission team in your prayers while 10 men (including teens) from FBC travel to Ensenada, Mexico – July 6-14 to serve at our sister church, Dios es Amor (God is Love). Also please keep those family members who are left at home in your prayers as they worry about those who are traveling to Mexico. There was a great Men’s retreat to Hume Lake back in April and here is a photo of the trophy fish caught in the lake by Doug Block (look hard!). It was great to have a father-son members attend this event with the men. We also had a lot of fun at a men’s BBQ at the Tripp’s in May and we had competition in Horse Shoes, Target Shooting, and Driving Golf Balls. You can tell by the photo that the weather was quite cool and windy! But that didn’t hinder the activities at all. Oh, the event was also pretty cool…..and the food was great…..lots of dishes to share and no one went home hungry. Upcoming Events Guns and Grub at King City, June 16th, 2012 (This event is being rescheduled) We will be spending the day at the Monterey County Sheriff’s shooting range in King City and will have a BBQ cook out. Ironman of the Year Award in July 2012 In July we will announce the recipient of the “Ironman of the Year” award. You can submit nominations for this award to Doug Block for consideration. Movie Night Event , August 26, 2012 We will have a special viewing in the sanctuary at 5:00 PM on the evening of Sunday, August 26, 2012 of the movie “October Baby”. FBC is co-sponsoring the showing with Confidence Pregnancy Center. It is the first showing of the movie in our area and is scheduled before the release of the DVD in September. Please invite all your friends to attend this impactful movie. Carmel Beach outing September 8th, 2012 We will have a fun day at the beach with all kinds of activities to interest almost anyone. Things like beach volleyball, football, fishing, surfing, and let’s don’t forget food! More details as we get closer to the date. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2012, MARK YOUR CALENDARS Please save the above date for our New Testament Walk Through the Bible. This will be formatted similar to the one we did a few months ago on the Old Testament. If you were there for the Old Testament portion you will remember how much fun it was and how it was formatted to help you remember what you learned. Reengage – Catch a new vision for your ministry and how it fits into God’s greater plan for the Christian men’s movement. Help shape the next stages of the life of NCMM. Click this link for complete conference details: http://ncmm.org/conferences/ Here is a list of the speakers that will be at the NCMM conference: Session 1 Speaker – T.C. Stallings, Actor If you’ve seen the movie Courageous, you will recognize T.C. Stallings. Since he was a boy, he performed in school and church plays. Although much enjoyment came from these periodical stage plays, T.C.’s passions unexpectedly shifted to the game of football. He accepted a full scholarship to play football at the University of Louisville and enjoyed a solid collegiate career with the Cardinals. He played professionally in the Arena League, Europe, and in Canada. His last professional game saw him win the European Super Bowl and was named MVP on his team. Once it became apparent that football was nearing its end, T.C.’s desire to act was rekindled. T.C. landed a spot on “King of the Jungle” on the family-oriented network “Animal Planet”. He went on to star in his own one-hour special on Animal Planet. As the pursuit for a major acting opportunity continued, T.C. landed a few small commercials and a role as an extra in the Disney film “Secretariat”. After this, he competed in the AMTC (Actors, Models, and Talent for Christ) in which he was a finalist for Best Overall Male Actor. Most recently, T.C. landed the role of “T.J.” in the movie “Courageous”, which was his debut in a major motion picture. Session 2 Speaker – Miles McPherson, Sr. Pastor, Rock Church, San Diego Miles McPherson is a man radically transformed by God. Whether sharing the stage with a former U.S. president or producing an Emmy Award-winning documentary, Miles stands at the forefront of transformational evangelism and ministry mobilization. Miles is the President of Miles Ahead Ministries and Senior Pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego, CA, the fastest growing church in America for the 30-somethings age bracket. A nationally known speaker, McPherson’s bold, down-to-earth, humorous style has become his trademark. His relevant messages challenge both the young and young-minded and often compel them to recalibrate their lives in light of the Gospel. McPherson is the author of several books and articles and earned an Emmy Award in 2007 for a documentary on methamphetamine. He and his wife Debbie have three children and reside in San Diego Session 3 Speaker – Jack Hayford, President of The Kings University & Founding Pastor of The Church On The Way Jack Hayford is President of The Kings University in Los Angeles, which he founded in 1997. He is probably best known, however, as “Pastor Jack,” founding pastor of The Church On The Way in Van Nuys, CA, where he served as senior pastor for more than three decades. A prolific and best-selling author, Pastor Hayford has penned more than 50 books and composed 500 hymns and choruses, including the internationally known and widely recorded “Majesty.” He also served a five-year term as President of The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. He is an acknowledged “bridge-builder,” helping to forge healthy bonds among all segments of the Body of Christ. He is recognized for his balance in preaching the Word, and avoiding extremes while not diluting or compromising the demands of truth. Pastor Jack’s heart to bring unity across all denominational and racial boundaries has given him an open door to minister in all kinds of settings. Conference Worship – Sam Parsons, Founder of Good News Ministry Sam Parsons is the founder of Good News Ministry, which exists to bring the love, joy, and Gospel of Christ to a lonely world. By providing music, motivation and biblical teaching to the elderly in skilled nursing homes, hospitals and retirement facilities, we seek to encourage the saints and train others to further the Kingdom of God. Since 1992 Good News Ministry has seen over 2,000 people join the family of God. Sam also is the worship leader for the Influencer Men’s Ministry morning services that meet Wednesdays and Fridays in southern California. FBC NIGHT AT VICTORY MISSION IN SALINAS Every 4th Thursday of the month is FBC night at Victory Mission and we encourage all Ironmen to team up with someone to attend one (or more) of these evenings. A number of our FBC Ironmen have found it in their hearts to serve God in this way. In June Jesus Velarde delivered the message in both Spanish and English. If you want to see Jesus Velarde in action you can watch a short video here: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=3137555651521&set=vb.1643787254&type=2 Here is the schedule: Doors open at 7:00PM (they close at 7:15PM so please be on time) Worship in Music 7:15PM - 7:30PM Message 7:30PM - 8:00PM Dinner 8:00PM – 8:30PM Victory Mission 43 Soledad Street Salinas, CA 93901 (831) 424-6429 MEN’S MINISTRY CONGREGATIONAL SURVEY Here is another excerpt from the Men’s Ministry Survey that was taken a few months ago. You can see we have a wide variety of passions/hobbies. If there is no number associated with a category that means there was just one response for that category. If you see an “X2”, that means that two people chose that category. It is interesting that the word “work” only appears once as in “working in the garage”. I guess that means that none of us are passionate about our jobs! Just an FYI, some of the respondents left this item blank while others listed multiple interests. It seems that one respondent was even passionate about “BACON”. What are your passions/hobbies? Rock Collecting Teaching Music X 2 Golf X 2 Fishing Hockey SCUBA Shooting Off Roading Creative Pursuits Camping Youth Surfing Fixing/Repairing Gardening Working in Garage Hiking Bacon (?) The leadership material is available (including DVD) if any group wants to use it. Just see Doug Block. Also, Doug Block has a copy of the Courageous movie DVD if you would like to show it to your group. Several small groups are on summer recess so please contact the leader to find out when the group will start up again.
