Thank you for attending curriculum night last wednesday! It was great seeing everyone! my presentation and our third grade common core group presentation is on the website. Please make sure you use our QR code reader to quickly link to our webpage! I hope you have a great weekend! Mrs. Ostrowski this week we started our flex math groups. Every student should have a sheet with their child's TEACHERS NAME AND EMAIL ADDRESS. IF YOU NEED ANYMORE INFORMATION, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT YOUR CHILDS MATH TEACHER OR MYSELF. THE STUDENTS ARE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE MATH WITH OTHER teachers and students. For math students STARTED CHAPTER three on addition. WE HAVE TAKEN OUR ADDITION TO THE NEXT LEVEL AND ADDING A NEXT STEP, ALGEBRA! THIS WEEK WE BEGAN WITH DISCUSSING THE COMMUNATATIVE, IDENTITY, AND ASSOCIATIVE PROPERTIES. WE ALSO USED COUNTERS TO HELP US FIND MISSING ADDENDS IN AN ADDITION PROBLEM. AT THE END OF THE WEEK WE ENDED WITH ESTIMATING SUMS. THE STUDENTS WORKED VERY HARD AND ARE EXCITED FOR STARTING some easyALGEBRA. Students FINISHED UP "NATE THE GREAT." this WAS A GREAT MYSTERY STORY THAT THE STUDENTS ENJOYED READING. WE DISCUSSED MYSTERY Vocabulary AND students created their own mystery story using an ipad app called "puppet pals" This week we practiced identifying subjects and a predicates. Each student picked a silly subject and predicate out of a bag, wrote it in a sentence, and drew a picture. Then each student presented their subjects and predicates to the class. We laughed so hard; I wouldn't be surprised if the 5th graders heard us! As a fun assessment students used a new app on the iPad I found called "ColAR mix." Students made their subject and predicate come to life by this 3d app and had to describe it in a super sentence. Science We finish ed up our chapter on food chains and food webs this week. Students worked in groups creating a food chain with producer, consumer and decomposers. I'm impressed how well they worked collaboratively with a group! Amazing job! pOSTERS WILL BE DISPLAYED IN OUR HALLWAY.
