St Wilfrid’s Parish, Ripon
A Place To Grow
Sonnet 73
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou see’st the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west;
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire,
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the deathbed whereon it must expire,
Consumed with that which it was nourished by.
This thou perceiv’st, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

Luke 18, 9-14
Today’s Gospel can be seen both to continue on the subject of
prayer in our lives, as last week, and also to put in front of us
again the disaster of having an exaggerated idea of our own
importance and virtue compared to others.
Ecclesiasticus 35, 12-19
The Gospel’s theme is expanded here. God’s way of looking at
people is radically different from the distinctions and judgements
that abound in human societies.
2 Timothy 4, 6-18
Paul writes his own epitaph. He sees his approaching death as
the climax of all he has tried to live by in his life
Pastoral Parish Council
St Wilfrid’s Schola Cantorum
It is proposed to form a choir to enjoy performing beautiful
choral music from the Catholic tradition. Probably two
practice meetings per month. The group would lead
10.00am Mass music once a month. Anyone interested in
joining should email: [email protected] for further
information.
Purpose of the Council
To work with the Parish Priest to enable the parish community to
implement its vision. To assist in the planning, organizing, and
reviewing the evangelization, worship, religious education and
service activities within the parish.
Members should be regularly practising their Catholic faith, and
willing to serve at the service of a united community. The Pastoral
Council needs people who are thoughtful and balanced, trusted
by the parishioners, really good listeners, who will work towards
consensus and unity. Ideally they will reflect a cross section of the
community.
Nomination Forms are available in Church or names can be
put on the list on the Notice board. Those nominated should
have expressed their willingness, and be supported by two
other parishioners.
Nominations close on Sunday 30th of October
