The following quotes are excerpts from letters sent to Bobbi Booth and her mother from
Teresa Mayes and Mary Mayes. Teresa Mayes was the wife of Adam Mayes. Mary
Mayes was his mother.
Due to the extremely personal content in the letters, we have chosen not to release
them in full. The excerpts have not been edited.
FROM TERESA MAYES TO HER MOTHER:
“I wished each night that me & Adam & Mary & Johnny & all of the family could have a nice dinner. But he
was so contaling.”
“The bad thing is I've never been in trouble by to law or nothing.”
“I wished I would have listened to you. Ending now but not forever. Love Teresa”
FROM TERESA MAYES TO BOBBI BOOTH:
“I've should have listened to you when you said that there was something about him you did not like.”
“You what the bad thing is I've never been in trouble with the law.”
“You know how contaling Adam was.”
FROM MARY MAYES TO TERESA MAYES’ MOTHER:
“Teresa & I are very lucky, to be alive. I believe he was coming back to kill both of us.”
“I don't know what is going to happen but we are both going to do time for something we didn't do. When
you are afraid of someone you don't cross them or ask why. I have been that way for years. No one ever
knew because I never told, because who wants to be afraid of their children. But it happened and people
say he can't hurt you anymore, what do they think is happening now? I slept my first safe night behind
bars and still dream of him coming in here.”
“This won't be a long letter but I just want you to know life hasn't been easy for Teresa, or me. Adam
enjoyed making her feel like nothing, just like he did me. He would grab Teresa by the throat and push
up the wall. And when I tried to stop him I got knocked backwards. It was always something with him. We
never did anything right. Only he was right. Teresa was always covered in black & blue marks”
