TO THE POINTE
EPPOA Board Of Directors
News & Notes
Thoughts and Prayers
Not already??!! Time seems to pass so quickly – and all of a sudden it’s
February! Is it because we are all so busy that time seems to pass in a flash?
That is very true of the lifestyle we experience here at Emerald Pointe – if anyone
finds themselves with nothing to do, it certainly isn’t for lack of any activities to
keep one busy! January, like every month, was filled with many different activities
and events. We encourage everyone to take advantage of all we have to offer in
this wonderful resort!
Many residents of the park have been experiencing illness this season and our
thoughts and prayers go out to all of them with best wishes for a speedy recovery.
We have also recently lost some of our residents and former residents - our
condolences go out to their families.
We extend our deepest condolences
to the families and friends of the late
Marion Smith, Pat McKillip and
Dean Hecker
Sending prayers and best wishes to
Mary Ann Winslow and Janie
Bandaccari as they face personal
health issues.
Open Houses
February 5th, 19th &
24th
Emerald Pointe hosted the EPROC Association meeting in January, with a
large number of attendees from our neighboring parks. Members from visiting
parks are always so impressed with the beauty of Emerald Pointe, so kudos to all
who help keep it that way – residents and volunteers. Scott Gordon, the park’s
attorney, was the Guest Speaker and updated everyone with valuable information
regarding recent and pending legislation.
As usual, Guy’s Tuesday morning work crew have accomplished many
maintenance projects around the clubhouse and in the common areas. We would
like to acknowledge Jack Pechaski for keeping the crew busy during Guy’s
absence. As always, a job well done by all our volunteers! A large screen TV has
been installed in the Clubhouse. Now both sides of the room may be utilized,
particularly on Thursday mornings. The TV also has the capability of swinging out
from the wall and it can be adjusted so that it is visible from almost anywhere in
the room. Many thanks to Jim Kelly, Chuck Armstrong and Ken Rascoe for the
installation!
Just a reminder that the Annual Meeting is being held in March. There are
vacancies on the Board of Directors and candidates are needed to fill them.
Anyone wishing to serve on the Board is encouraged to submit their name to the
Search Committee. Owners are also encouraged to exercise their right to have a
say in matters of the park by attending the meeting and casting their votes. THIS
IS A MEMBER’S MEETING, NOT A BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING – your
voice counts!
Roberta Cobb, Director & Vice-President

There are vacancies on the Board which need to be filled as we
approach the Annual General Meeting in March. YOU are a
perfect candidate to apply for a position. Applications can be
obtained and submitted prior to the AGM from Search
Committee members: Buck Winslow (Chair), Wanda Rascoe,
Tom Garcia, Marlene Saletko or Shirley Baird.
WE KNOW there are MANY qualified residents in our
community who would be valuable members of the Board – WE
NEED YOU!!
Wanda Rascoe, Search Committee
From the Social Committee
The Committee would like to thank all the Emerald Pointe
residents who supported the many activities held in the month of
January.
The Ice Cream Socials are always a success and we appreciate
the music provided by the “EP Bluegrass Band” for our
enjoyment. The “Egg-In-A-Bag” brunch was well attended and
enjoyed by all.
We had 19 residents donate blood during our Blood Drive. The
next Blood Drive will be in March.
107 tickets were sold for the “Country-Western Dance” and
everyone had a great time dancing, visiting with friends and
devouring the yummy appetizers!
The final event of the month was the “Spaghetti Dinner” which is
always very tasty!
All of these events are made possible only because of the many
volunteers who offer their services. A great BIG thank you goes
out to each and every one of them.
Check your calendar regularly for ongoing weekly activities and
special events – it’s a great way to get to know the wonderful
people in our community!

Sometimes, particularly on weekends, our trash
dumpsters get VERY full!
When you go to dump your trash,
Toss the bag to the back – with a crash!
If the bins are overflowing,
Turn around and keep on going.
Bring it back another day
And nasty critters will stay away!
A silly poem about a serious problem! Please
keep in mind that our waste management
company does not pick up ANY trash left around
the bins. Loose bags, boxes, yard waste, etc. has
to be tidied up by volunteers. This is just NOT fair!
The bins are often full only at the front, which gives
the impression there is no more room. If we make
an effort to throw our trash bags all the way to the
back of the bin, there will be more room. Breaking
up boxes and participating in the recycling of paper
and cans will also cut down on the amount of trash
we produce. We have 3 bins…for the sake of a
few more steps, check for room in the other two if
the first one is full.
Most importantly, garbage left loose around the
bins attracts insects, vermin, feral cats and snakes.
No one wants to be surprised by critters in the
enclosure! In hotter weather, the smell can
become really unpleasant – not to mention
unhealthy!
PLEASE! BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR –
NEVER LEAVE BAGS OF TRASH OUTSIDE
THE DUMPSTERS!!
.
If you are a dog owner, you know what a special place your pet holds in your family and in your heart. You also know
that with pet ownership comes responsibility. Along with feeding, sheltering and meeting medical needs, it is an owner’s
responsibility to prevent their dog from harming people, the community and the environment.
Many Emerald Pointe dog owners take this responsibility seriously. They always pick up dog waste and dispose of it
appropriately. They walk in designated areas and don’t allow their dog to trespass on the properties of other residents.
They use 5’-6’ non-retractable leashes to control their dog safely. Thank you to these owners who respect the rights of
everyone to enjoy a clean and safe neighborhood.
Emerald Pointe has clear and unequivocal guidelines concerning the conduct of pets and their owners. It is most
unfortunate that some people have been choosing to ignore these rules and their responsibilities, as it casts an undeserved
negative light on all dog owners in the resort. Dog waste that is not picked up creates a health hazard for people as well as
other dogs, and we all know how unpleasant it is to step in! Allowing your dog to piddle indiscriminately encourages other
dogs to mark their territory in the same place. It is hoped that those of you who have not been quite so diligent in following
the rules will give some serious thought as to how the choices you make affect the cleanliness and safety of our
community!
1. Inexpensive and convenient pick-up bags are readily available in pet, department and grocery stores. Attach the
holder to your dog’s leash with a cable tie or some other type of strong clip and replace bags as required. You will
always have bags on hand.
2. When walking your dog in the dark, carry a flashlight. A small LED flashlight can also easily be attached to your
dog’s leash. The dog walks are not brightly lit…a flashlight will help you see where to pick up!
3. Retractable leashes give a dog a sense of freedom when walking, but can be difficult to use and ineffective in a
situation where your dog needs to be controlled quickly. They can also be dangerous. They can cause serious
burns and cuts and can become a tripping and strangulation hazard if the cord happens to become tangled with
other dogs and/or people. Using a sturdy 5-6’ straight leash will allow you to control your dog more easily,
effectively and safely while walking in Emerald Pointe.
4. If you have guests with dogs, or if you give someone else (dog sitter, grandchildren, neighbor) permission to walk
your dog, they must be made aware of the rules and are expected to follow them. Keep in mind that there are
procedures in place to fine those owners who do not respect the rules.
Emerald Pointe is a beautiful community and we each need to do our part to keep it safe and clean. As pet owners, we
have an added responsibility….to take care of our furry friends in a way that is respectful of our neighbors and of the rules
that are in place for the benefit of all.

Tampa RV Supershow
Emerald Pointe was very well represented at our booth at the RV Supershow during the week of January
12, 2015 in the Florida Fairgrounds. We had a tremendous amount of interest in our resort and we know for a
fact that some people made an effort to come to the Open House on January 20. We want to thank all
those who volunteered to work at the show – Tom & Phyllis Trottier, Ray & Phyllis McDaniel, Paul and
Sharon Moore, Jim and Shelley Lynn, Lionel Boucher, Gene Conklin, Charlie & Janie Bandaccari, Chuck &
Judy Armstrong and Rich & Pat Frascone.

An Easy Treat for Valentine’s Day!
Fresh Strawberry UpsideDown Cake
Ingredients
2 cups crushed fresh strawberries
1 (6 oz) pkg. strawberry flavored Jello
3 cups mini marshmallows
1 (18 oz) pkg. yellow cake mix; prepared as directed on
package, but not baked.
Directions
Preheat oven to 350F.
Spread crushed strawberries on the bottom of a lightly
greased 9x13 baking pan. Evenly sprinkle strawberries with
the dry Jello powder, and top with a layer of mini
marshmallows.
I met my husband while I was working in a science library. He came
in every week to read the latest journals and eventually decided to take
out the librarian instead of the books.
After a year and a half of dating, he showed up at the library and
started rummaging through my desk. I asked what he was looking for,
but he didn’t answer.
Finally he unearthed one of the rubber stamps I used to identify
reference books. “Since I couldn’t find the right engagement ring,” he
said, “this will have to do,” and he firmly stamped my hand. Across my
knuckles, in capital letters, it read: “NOT FOR CIRCULATION.”

Pour prepared cake mix on top of the marshmallows.
Bake in 350F oven about 40-50 minutes until a toothpick
inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 15
minutes. Loosen sides with a knife and turn out onto a
serving tray.
Store in fridge.
ENJOY!!
