LAYING DIVISION PROFESSIONAL ADHESIVES Professional, superior-technology, high-adhesion quartz adhesive, suitable for high-resistance laying on flooring and walls of single-fired and double-fired ceramic tiles on cement-based substrates, with thicknesses up to 10 mm. For indoor/outdoor use. EN 12004 Class C1 IN COMPLIANCE WITH EUROPEAN REGULATION SUPER PROLONGED WORKABILITY – The high level of absorption of the most common types of substrates and tiles used in covering operations drastically reduces workability and adjustment times, which are indispensable for fast, secure laying procedure. The SUPER technology provides a prolonged open time and adjustability interval for laying high-porosity tiles on highly absorbent substrates, ensured by the use of water-release adjustment polymers and micronised, highpurity index, mineral fillers. HIGH ADHESION – Laying environments subject to increasing strain require improvement of the final performance of the adhesive. The use of high-resistance, hydraulic binders composed of only cement klinker and polymers with high degree of dispersion and compatibility with a basic environment complete the chemical structure of SUPER, ensuring rheological mixture properties characterised by prolonged stability, which results in superior final performance. TECHNOLOGY AND SECURITY FOR LAYING PROFESSIONALS – Our basic task is to satisfy requirements for fast operation and guarantee absolutely reliable products for building professionals. Our aim is thus to formulate secure, optimum-performance adhesives for professional tile setters. The strong point of SUPER lies not only in its excellent results but also in the superiority of its conception. Developed by the Research and Development Division and guaranteed by the Training Center. Compliant with the CARE Project for the Protection of Health and the Environment: Laying Division (Method M1 – Action P306). SUPER AREAS OF USE Laying of ceramic tiles on flooring and walls. Thicknesses up to 10 mm. Materials: - ceramic tiles - ceramic mosaic Substrates: - cement plasters and cement-lime mortar cement-based screeds professional, ready-for-use screeds such as REKORD® PRONTO and KERACEM® PRONTO screeds created with professional hydraulic binders such as REKORD® and KERACEM® Use Flooring and walls, indoor/outdoor use, in civil, industrial and commercial applications, also in areas subject to freezing. Do not use On substrates with a gypsum and anhydrite base without use of PRIMER A, the professional, concentrated, water-base, surface insulation product; on plasterboard; on old ceramic flooring, marble floor tiles and natural stone, heat-radiant slabs, high-flexibility substrates; on plastic or resilient materials, metal and wood; on substrates which are wet, subject to moisture rising or in continuous contact with water. PREPARATION OF SUBSTRATES In general, cement-based substrates must be free from dust, oil and grease, dry and free from any rising damp, with no loose, flaky or imperfectly anchored parts such as residual traces of cement, lime and paint, which must be totally removed. The substrate must be stable and without cracks, must have already completed curing hygrometric shrinkage and must present suitable mechanical resistance levels. Non-planar areas must be corrected with suitable smoothing and finishing products. Substrates with weak surface consistency: screeds and plasters which present a weak crystalline structure in the initial mm of thickness and which can be easily abraded must be consolidated by means of KERADUR, the professional, water-base depth consolidant, to be applied with one or more coatings and according to the instructions, until a surface has been obtained which is still absorbent but compact. High-absorption substrates: on screeds and plasters which are compact but highly absorbent, in warm climates and with direct ventilation, it is advisable to apply in advance PRIMER A, a professional, concentrated, waterbase, surface insulation product, with one or more coatings and according to the instructions, to reduce water absorption and to improve spreadability of the adhesive. ABSTRACT High-resistance application of ceramic tiles must be carried out with a professional, superior-technology quartz adhesive, compliant with EN 12004 – class C1, such as SUPER manufactured by Kerakoll. The substrate must be compact, free from any flaky, loose parts and must be clean and cured, having already completed the shrinkage stage. A ____ mm toothed spreader must be used for an average coverage of ≈ ___ kg/m2. Existing joints must be respected and elastic fractionizing joints must be created for every ____ m2 of continuous surface. Ceramic tiles must be laid with joint-gap spacers with a width of ____ mm. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Preparation Prepare SUPER in a clean container, first of all pouring in a quantity of water equal to approximately 3⁄4 of that which will be required. Gradually add SUPER to the water in the container, mixing the paste from the bottom upwards with a low-rev (≈ 400/min.) helicoidal agitator. Then add more water until the desired consistency is obtained. The mixture must be homogeneous and without any lumps. For best results, and to mix larger quantities of adhesive, a stirring device with vertical blades and slow rotation is recommended. Specific polymers with high-dispersion properties ensure that SUPER is immediately ready for use. The amount of water to be added, indicated on the packaging, is an approximate value and will vary between the SUPER grey and white types. It is possible to obtain mixtures with a more or less thixotropic consistency, depending on the type of application. Adding extra water does not improve the workability of the product, and may cause shrinkage in the plastic phase of drying and result in less effective final performance with a reduction in compressive strength and adhesion to the substrate. Application SUPER should be applied with a suitable toothed spreader, to be chosen according to the size and characteristics of the rear surface of the tiles. It is best to use the smooth part of the trowel to spread a fine initial layer, pressing down hard so as to obtain maximum adhesion to the substrate and to regulate water absorption, after which the thickness can be adjusted as required by tilting the spreader at an angle. Spread the adhesive over a surface area which will allow for laying of the surface materials within the indicated open time, and check for suitability of the adhesive at regular intervals. The open time may vary considerably during the same operation, depending on various factors such as exposure to sunlight, air currents, absorbency of the substrate, temperature and relative humidity of the atmosphere. Press down each tile to allow for complete, uniform contact with the adhesive. In the case of laying in environments subject to heavy traffic or in outdoor locations, the double-spread technique must be used, to ensure 100% coverage of the rear of the tiles. In general, ceramic tiles do not require preliminary treatment, however these materials should be checked to ensure there are no traces of dust, dirt or surface coatings of any kind that are not properly anchored to the substrate or which may modify the absorption characteristics of the tiles. Cleaning Residual traces of SUPER can be removed from tools and covered surfaces with water before the product has hardened. SPECIAL NOTES Special applications: replacement of mixing water with TOP LATEX, the professional elastomer latex, provides the adhesive with greater capacity of transversal deformation and greater resistance to water and tensile stress without modifying the open time and adjustment interval. SUPER with addition of TOP LATEX exceeds the level of performance required by EN 12004 class C2 E. Please consult the Kerakoll Worldwide Global Service to define use of this product for particular purposes such as: laying on deformable flooring and walls in plasterboard, laying on heat-radiant slabs, laying of large-format paving slabs in outdoor applications and in permanently humid environments, direct bonding on substrates in smoothed concrete with reduced water absorption. Elastic joints: provide desolidarisation joints and elastic fractionizing joints for areas of 20 – 25 m2 in indoor applications, 10 – 15 m2 in outdoor applications and for every 8 metres length in the case of long, narrow applications.
