It is time once again to kick off the start of the 2017 Great Communicator Debate Series regional competitions! Compete at one of our 6 regional competitions to qualify for the National Championship in July for $40,000 worth of scholarships. The Health Information Technology Program has received an Apprenticeship Grant to help individuals seeking an associate’s degree in one of the fastest growing professions in healthcare today. Would you like tuition-free classes that build your skills and competencies for a career in health information technology? Or placement in a paid apprenticeship position following graduation? As a result of Chevron’s continual commitment in education and STEM, we will be selecting 20 outstanding high school students (rising juniors and rising seniors are eligible to apply) from across the U.S. to attend the Chevron sponsored summer educational camp, "Frontiers of Energy Resources", hosted at the University of Southern California and scheduled for June 25 – 30, 2017. While on campus, room and board will be covered by Chevron. This competitive summer program, in its 9th year, will introduce students to the science foundation of energy resources. They will also learn about the career possibilities in energy resources fields. This summer, Cal State LA's Charter College of Education (CCOE) will host a 3-week Reading and Writing Clinic for students from Pre-K through Community College. Registration begins early spring and is on a first come first served basis. The CSULA Charter College of Education’s Reading & Writing Clinic also offers an inexpensive three week Summer Reading Camp for area Pre-Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle School, High School, and Community College level students. The camp meets Monday through Thursday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Students participate in small group tutoring sessions with time for outdoor games and crafts! Attention PUSD students: The World Trade Week Education Committee offers annual scholarship awards to encourage outstanding young women and men to continue in post-secondary study in the field of International Trade and Business. There is $500 available from the World Trade Week for LA County seniors interested in pursuing careers in international trade and business. Note the applications are due March 17! Applications are now being accepted from qualified High School and Middle/Junior High School students of Asian Indian descent, graduating in the year 2017 for scholarship awards to be presented at the 31st Annual India Heritage Awards function on April 2, 2017at the Cerritos Sheraton Hotel, Cerritos, California. As many as twenty six scholarships will be handed over to qualified students at the Awards function. In the high school academic category, ten scholarships ranging from $2500 to $1000 will be given to the winning graduates while four Outstanding Achievement Awards of $750 each shall be presented to applicants excelling in Math & Science, sports, community service and visual and performing arts. An applicant who obtains perfect score on the quiz and/or SAT/ACT shall each get a special award of $200 each. The last date for receipt of completed applications is March 20, 2017. The Sierra Madre Civic Club is pleased once again to invite local high school seniors to apply for its annual Education Award. To qualify for consideration, you must be a Sierra Madre resident, be a student in a Sierra Madre school, volunteer or work in Sierra Madre. Come to the student center for an application. The deadline to apply is March 20, 2017. 16. The California Association of Collectors Educational Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce their annual essay scholarship contest. The CACESF’s contest is open to high school seniors who are legal California residents and will be attending any accredited public or private college, university, or trade school within 12 months of the scholarship award. The first award is $2,500, the second award $2,000, and the third award is $1,500. The essay topic is “The importance of establishing and maintaining good financial credit during your college years”. The online application is available online at www.CACESF.org. Deadline to apply is March 30, 2017. 17. The Lighthouse Guild offers 20 scholarships of up to $10,000 for college-bound students who are legally blind. The deadline is March 31st. The 7th Annual Brandon Jackson Memorial scholarship will be awarded again this year to deserving, college-bound students from Pasadena/Altadena community. The Brandon Jackson Memorial Scholarship recognizes the life of Brandon Jackson, a young man who inspired many of his classmates to personal and academic excellence and whose own life was cut short. Each year COPA (Community Organization of Pasadena for Advancement in Education) provides scholarships to deserving young women entering college. COPA is encouraging young women of Mexican descent to apply to The Lupe Hernandez/Quetzalcoatl Scholarship. Many of the decisions by the Scholarship Committee are not based on academics but also need. Scholarships are presented to students in each of the five high schools in the Pasadena Unified School District. Come to the student center for an application. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2017. The WWDC Scholarships reward talented students and STEM organization members with the opportunity to attend this year’s conference. Developers selected for a scholarship will receive a WWDC17 ticket and lodging free of charge. Submissions will be accepted from Monday, March 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. PDT until Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. PDT. All applicants will be notified of their status by Friday, April 21, 2017. The Los Angeles County Commission on Disabilities is excited to announce that the 2017 Bernard Siegel/Bill Tainter Memorial Scholarship Program and the Ruben Rios Creative Arts & Design Memorial Scholarship Program are seeking candidates to receive grants. These programs offer graduating high school students with disabilities, a financial opportunity to become more independent and selfsufficient through higher education. Applications and more information about each Program can be accessed and completed by participant(s) through the Commission on Disabilities website at: www.laccod.org. The deadline to submit an application is April 3, 2017. 22. The Pasadena NAACP Maurice Morse Scholarship is now available. The purpose of the Maurice Morse Scholarship is to provide post high school financial assistance to African-American students who reside in Pasadena or South Pasadena, or who will graduate within the Pasadena Unified School District. Four Blair High School Students were awarded scholarships in 2016! Come see your counselor for an application. Applications must be received at the Pasadena NAACP office by 5:00pm on Friday, April 7, 2017. Come to the student center to see if you meet the criteria. 23. Pasadena Water& Power would like to honor two outstanding Pasadena Unified School District high school students with an educational scholarship for the upcoming 2017-2018 academic year. They will be awarding a first place $5,000 scholarship and a second place $2,500 scholarship. Submit completed application no later than April 10, 2017 to [email protected]. The Pasadena-Foothills Association of Realtors Charitable Foundation is pleased to inform you that they once again are awarding a total of $10,000 in scholarships to seniors graduating from a public high school this year. Ideally we would like to award one $1000 scholarship per school. All students are encouraged to apply for these awards. All applications must be received by Friday, April 14th, 2017. The Pasadena Police Officers Association (PPOA) is seeking qualified candidates for our Community Scholarship Awards Program, and we would love to see some Blair High School seniors apply! This year we’re offering the PPOA Community Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and $500 Lloyd M. Kirby Memorial Community Scholarships. Seniors who attend high school in Pasadena and plan to major in a law enforcement/criminal justice related field or who have served in a Police Explorers program are eligible to apply. We also offer awards to dependents of current/retired Pasadena Police Department officers. All materials must be received by April 15, 2017. Come to the student center for more information. 26. St. Barnabas Church is offering two Leon Conerly Scholarships. These scholarships are being offered to students that are residing in the Pasadena/Altadena area and are $500 each. These awards are in recognition of community service and are designed to provide financial assistance to college bound students.
