Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait
• March of Dimes community program aimed at
reducing preterm birth.
• Partnership among: March of Dimes chapter,
health department, clinic/hospital, and the
community.
• Includes three critical elements: clinical
interventions, provider/patient education, and
community awareness.
• Efforts are focused on results and include process
and pregnancy outcome measures.
Houston Goals
• Reduce the singleton preterm birth rate by 12% by 2014 in
HBWW sites.
• Reduce elective inductions and cesarean sections conducted
prior to 39 weeks gestation.
• Measure positive change in provider knowledge, attitudes, and
behaviors regarding elective procedures and the management
of preterm birth.
• Measure positive change in consumer knowledge, attitudes,
and behaviors regarding preterm birth and elective
procedures.
• Increase patient entry into prenatal care in the first
trimester of pregnancy.

Early Entry into Prenatal Care
March of Dimes Healthy Babies are Worth the
Wait, IMPACT Collaborative, and United Way
2-1-1 Helpline have partnered together to
deliver a community wide message regarding
the importance of early prenatal care.
Initiative Goal
Increase the percentage of births
receiving care in the first trimester in
Harris County by 7% one year after
campaign launch.
Go Before You Show Campaign
“Go Before You Show” (GBYS) is a
public education effort aimed at
increasing knowledge about the
importance of early prenatal care.
Deliver a community wide message
regarding the early and consistent
prenatal care.
Our Message
If you’re pregnant or think you might be, then
“Go Before You Show”. Go see a healthcare
provider for your first prenatal care
appointment.
– Prenatal care is the care you get while you’re
pregnant.
– Early and regular prenatal care can increase your
chances of a safe pregnancy and healthy baby.
– Dial 2-1-1 for free information and referral
assistance.
