Density and Buoyancy Density β’ The amount of mass an object has per volume of space. β’ The equation for density is: πππ π Buoyancy β’ Whether an object floats or sinks in a fluid. β’ In science, a fluid is anything that flows (gases and liquids). Density = π£πππ’ππ There are two ways objects vary in density: β’ Positive buoyancy (floats) Object density < fluid density 1. More atoms in the same volume β’ Negative buoyancy (sinks) Object density > fluid density 2. More mass in each atom β’ Neutral buoyancy (same) Object density = fluid density
