Density and Buoyancy
Density
β€’ The amount of mass an object has
per volume of space.
β€’ The equation for density is:
π‘šπ‘Žπ‘ π‘
Buoyancy
β€’ Whether an object floats or sinks in a
fluid.
β€’ In science, a fluid is anything that
flows (gases and liquids).
Density = π‘£π‘œπ‘™π‘’π‘šπ‘’
There are two ways objects vary in
density:
β€’ Positive buoyancy (floats)
Object density < fluid density
1. More atoms in the same volume
β€’ Negative buoyancy (sinks)
Object density > fluid density
2. More mass in each atom
β€’ Neutral buoyancy (same)
Object density = fluid density
