2005-2006 Athletes of the Week
Erin Keeton
Senior, Girl's Softball
Erin is a senior, 2nd baseman and four-year member of the girl’s softball team. In sectionals victories
against Walnut Hills and McAuly she had several key hits. Erin has also participated in gymnastics. She
will attend Miami University next fall and major in business.
Nate Kautz
Junior, Boy's Baseball
Nate is a junior, pitcher/ outfielder and 1st year member of the baseball team. In an upset sectional win
against Princeton he hit a pair of homeruns and got a save from the mound. Nate plays summer baseball
for the Cincinnati Rockets.
Jordan Clark
Senior, Girl's Track
5/8/06
Jordan is a senior, 4-year letter winner on the girl’s track team. At the Mason Invitational she placed first in the
discuss throw with a toss of 103’2". She also plays on the golf team, is a peer counselor and member of Interact
Club. Jordan will attend the University of Kentucky next fall and major in Biology.
Ryan Hamning
Senior, Boy's Tennis

Ryan is a senior, 4-year letter winner on the boy’s tennis team. He recently became the first Lakota East tennis
player to qualify for Districts. Ryan also repeated this season as the GMC Player of the Year. He also teaches
tennis lessons. Ryan will attend Cleveland State next fall on a tennis scholarship majoring in Business
Management.
Sarah Kachovec
Junior, Softball

Sara is a junior, centerfielder on the girl’s softball team. In a double-header versus Northwest she collected a total
of 5 hits on the day. She also participates in gymnastics. Sara is a member of NHS and Mu Alpha Theta.
Robert Polleys
Senior, Boy's Volleyball

Robert is a senior, 3-year letter winner on the boy’s volleyball team. In a match against Centerville he had 16 kills
and 35 digs. Rob is a member of National Honor Society. He is also a member of the yearbook staff and a web
page designer. Next fall he will attend Miami University and major in Business Management.
Meagan Scheitlin
Freshman, Track

Megan is a freshman on the girl’s track team. She recently set a new pole vault record for Lakota East with a vault
of 8 feet against Kings. In that meet she also won the 200 meter event.
Patrick Hamning
Sophomore, Tennis

Patrick is a sophomore, 2nd year varsity player on the East Tennis team. Last week he defeated the previously
undefeated 2nd singles player for Loveland High School. Playing 1st doubles his team also recently handed the
St. X "B" doubles team their first loss of the season.
Katherine Stetz
Senior, Softball

Kat is a senior, four-year starter on the girl’s softball team. She recently pitched the first perfect game in Lakota
East softball history against Milford. In that game she struck out 9 batters and East won 11-0. Kat plans on
attending Bowling Green next fall and majoring in graphic design.
Jimmie Haines
Senior, Baseball

Jimmy is a senior, 2-year varsity member on the baseball team. He recently pitched a 6-0 shutout against
Princeton. In that game he also struck out six hitters giving up only 5 hits. He hopes to attend either Miami or UC
next fall and major in mechanical engineering.
Jessica Lambert

Jessica is junior, three-year member of the East Softball program. She recently pitched a perfect game against the
Middletown reserve team. Jessica is also a member of the girl’s basketball team and participates in the Symphonic
Band.
Doug Spotts

Doug is a junior, 3-year varsity letter winner on the boyâs volleyball team. He currently leads the team in kills and
service aces. Doug also plays for the Cincinnati Attack club volleyball team. He is a student in the East Teacher
Academy.
Sarah Thomson

Sarah is a senior member of the girl’s track and field team. Last week against Fairfield she placed 1st in the shot
put event. Sarah is also a member of the girl’s tennis team and involved with Symphonic Band.
OB Vincent
Senior, Boy's Track

OB is a senior, 4-year member of the boy’s track team. He won the 3200-meter race against Fairfield. OB also
participates on the cross country and chess team. He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, Computer and Latin Club
and NHS.
Elizabeth Tabor
Freshman, Swim & Dive Team

Elizabeth is a freshman, 1st year member on the girl’s swimming team. She recently qualified for the state
swimming championships and will compete in the 200/500 free and girl’s 400 free relay. Elizabeth is a first team
All-GMC performer and was named the Co-GMC Athlete of the Year for girl’s swimming.
James Dews
Senior, Varsity Basketball

James is a senior, 4-year member of the boy’s basketball team. James recently broke the Lakota School District
all-time scoring record. He is the leading scorer in the city this season and a Nike and McDonald’s All-American.
James is also East’s all-time leader in rebounds and steals. He will attend the University of Miami next fall.
Alison DesJardins

Alison is a senior, 4-year member of the East Gymnastics team. She was 1st All-around at the Crosstown Flipout
and East Quad. She is also a member of Mu Alpha Theta and German Club. Alison will attend the University of
Dayton next fall and major in medicine.

Stephen is a senior, 4-year member of the boys swimming team. He is a district qualifier in the 100 free, 100 fly
and the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams. Stephen will attend Cleveland State next fall.

Mary is a senior, 2-year member of the East Cheerleading Team. She is a member of ASL, Latin Club and
National Honor Society. Mary will attend Miami University next fall.

Daniel is a junior, 2-year member of the East Wrestling Team. At the prestigious Medina Invitational Daniel place
6th in the 189 lb. weight class. He is a member of the jazz band at East.
Brittany Powell

Brittany is a senior, 2-year varsity player on the girl’s basketball team. Against Colerain she scored 14 points and
collected 8 rebounds. She is active in her church youth group and hopes to attend Wright State next fall.

collected 7 rebounds. He is a member of the GMC Leadership Team and is a Hawk Ambassador.

Tricia is a senior, three-year member of the Academic Quiz Team. She is the Art Director for the East Spark
Magazine. She is also a member of NHS and Mu Alpha Theta. She is planning on attending OSU next fall and
major in International Relations.

Laura is a senior, first-year member of the East Girlâs Bowling Team. She has the high average on the team this
season and set new school records for a two game series and first-ever 200 single-game. Laura is also a Hawk
Ambassador, peer counselor and member of NHS and Mu Alpa Theta.

Michael is a sophomore, 2nd year member of the East Boy’s Bowling Team. He has the high average for all boys
this year and set the boys school record for a two-game series.
Andrea Barnes

Andrea is a senior, 3-year member of the gymnastics team. She was East’s top finisher at the Badin Invitational
and is also a fall and winter cheerleader. Andrea participates on the East Yearbook staff and is a member of
German Club. Outside of school she is a volunteer cheer coach with Tomahawks and participates in her church
youth group.

Nate is a junior, 3-year member of the wrestling team. He was the 119 lb. champion at the St. Xavier Tournament.
He also placed 2nd at the Coaches Classic. Nate is a member of the GMC Leadership team and J. Kyle Braid.
Lauren Kindrick

Lauren is a junior, 2-year member of the girl’s swimming and diving team. At the Canton Invitational she placed
4th in the 500 free and 7th in the 200 free. She is also a member of SACA and Latin Club.
Jared Miller

Jared is a junior, 3-year member of the boy’s swimming and diving team. At the Canton Invitational he placed 1st
in the 200 IM (established new meet record) and 100 Breast. He also was a member of the 400 free/200 medley
relay teams that finished first.
Heather Britton

Heather is a senior, 1st year member of the winter cheerleading team. According to East Cheering Coach Cheryl
Teal, Heather has worked very hard and is doing an excellent job! She is also a yearbook staff member and is
actively involved in her church youth group. She hopes to attend UC next fall.
Kevin Kester

Kevin is a junior, 1st year player on the boys basketball team. He had an outstanding defensive effort against
Princeton’s leading scorer that contributed to an East victory. Kevin also is a member of the football team as a
cornerback.
Casey Keefer
Senior, Girl's Basketball

Casey is a senior, three-year member of the girlâs basketball team. Against Winton Woods she scored a career
high 22 points with 6 rebounds and 9 steals. Casey also runs cross country and track. She will attend the
University of Louisville next fall on a cross country/track scholarship with a possible major in biology.
Justin Landers

Justin is a senior, three-year member of the East Chess Team. So far this season he is the Hawks board one
player with a win against Princeton. He also plays baseball and soccer. Justin is a member of JCL, Mu Alpha
Theta, NHS and is also an Eagle Scout.
Megan Bush

Megan is a senior, 3-year varsity player on the girlâs soccer team. Megan is a defender and credits her best game
was against Lakota West who the Hawks defeated 4-0 this season. She also participates in student government.
She will attend Wright State next fall on a soccer scholarship and hopes to major in athletic training.
Casey Kjos

Casey is a senior, 3-year varsity player on the football team. Against West he had 6 catches for 78 yards and 1
TD. Casey also returned 3 punts for 63 yards. He is a member of the basketball team, peer counseling, and FCA.
Casey will attend Oregon State next fall on a football scholarship.

Senior, Cross Country Team

Casey is a senior, 4-year member of the girl’s cross country team. At last weekends District Championships Casey
placed 7th overall and for the fourth year in a row qualified for regionals. She also plays basketball and runs track.
Casey is a member of NHS and GMC Leadership.
Alex Heger

Alex is a senior, two-year player on the East Football Team. Alex is an outside linebacker and recorded two sacks
in the team’s shutout at Sycamore. He is also a peer counselor at East and a member of 4-H. Alex hopes to
continue his football career after graduation at an undetermined college or university.

Brandon is a sophomore striker, 2-year member of the boyâs soccer team. Coach Landrum nominated Brandon
for his hard work effort over the past several weeks. He also is a member of the bowling team and is a peer
counselor.

Meg is a senior, 3-year member of the girlâs volleyball team. She leads the team in kills and aces and is 2nd in
digs and blocks. She set a new East record for kills and aces in a season this year. Meg is also a peer counselor.
Richie Merrell

Richie is a sophomore, 1st-year member of the boyâs cross country team. At the Ed Leas Invitational, he placed
12th overall. Richie is a new student at East this season and hopes to run track in the spring.

Jona is a senior on the girlâs golf team. She was the Medalist at Kings and Fairfield this season and named 1st
Team All-GMC. She is a member of student government, FCLA, and a peer mediator.
David Paulett

David is a junior, 3-year member of the boy’s soccer team. So far this season he has 5 shutouts as the East
keeper (TW, Sycamore, Moeller, Milford, Springboro). David made the transition from field player to goalie after
breaking his leg in a game last season.

Lisa is a senior, 3-year member of the girl’s soccer team. Lisa leads the team in scoring and had two goals in a
win against Hamilton. She hopes to attend The University of Cincinnati next fall.

Jason is a senior, 1st year varsity member of the football team. He plays the middle linebacker position on the
East defensive unit. Jason made several significant defensive plays in the win against Princeton. He hopes to
continue his football career next fall at an undecided college or university.

Andrew is a senior, 4-year member of the boyâs golf team. He was the medalist at the Mason/Oak Hills match and
runner-up at the Kings Invitational. His best round this year was a 71 on The Grisly. He also is a member of NHS,
Mu Alpha Theta, and Spanish Club.

at the Mason Invitational. Allie is also a member of the East Girl’s Soccer, Basketball and Track teams.

Mason Invitational. OB also participates on the track and chess team. He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta,

School. Nick is also a member of Cincinnati United Premier Soccer Team. He hopes to continue his soccer career

doubles position for the Thunderhawks. Ashley is also a member of the East Latin Club.

Nick is a junior, 3-year member of the boy’s golf team. He was medalist at the Anderson, Centerville, and
Mason/Oak Hills Invitationals and was selected for the All-Tourney team at Lebanon. Nick is a member of the
GMC and Impact 21 Leadership Teams and is also the PR Director for the Spark.
