Vehicles with Confidence! Amy Herot, Co-Founder, NACSW ™, CPDT-KA Saturday, October 22, 2016 Lacey, WA Sunday, October 23, 2016 A COACHING Day with Amy! The coaching day may NOT focus primarily on vehicles depending on weather! Hosts: Dorothy Turley, CNWI [email protected] 360-586-6657 & Rachelle Bailey Austin [email protected] 360-493-0220 Location: Thurston County Fairgrounds, 3054 Carpenter Rd SE, Lacey, WA 98503 This will be the ONLY Vehicles with Confidence in the Northwest this year! Vehicles with Confidence—Saturday, October 22 This is a non-working seminar for the human part of the team. Variations in vehicle types and sizes, number of vehicles, layout, number of hides, accessibility, searching terrain, weather conditions, and time limits all affect your dog’s ability to successfully solve the scent problem. As the handler, you play an important role in giving your dog the opportunity to access the odor and helping him solve the puzzle in an expedient and efficient way. Are you giving your dog the best advantage possible, or are you hindering your dog? Can you confidently come up with a search strategy during the walk through and then modify in the moment if an environmental factor changes or your dog’s behavior indicates a need to adjust? As always, learning from the dog is your best game plan, but understanding how to support the dog when you’re on the other end of the leash is the art of vehicle searches. Studying the variations in environment and conditions that affect the dog’s access and perception of the scent source can help the handler become more skilled in allowing the dog to work as freely as possible. Training that allows the dog to gain exposure and experience, while the handler builds observation and mechanical skills, will help the team develop strong and resilient vehicle searches. When you have mastered the art of vehicle scent movement, you become a more confident handler and your dog becomes more confident in her/his work. A COACHING Day with Amy!—Sunday, October 23 Attendance on Saturday (Vehicles with Confidence) is a prerequisite for attending the Sunday Coaching Clinic as an auditor or working team as we will be building on and practicing the skills and techniques discussed on Saturday. Teams wanting to be considered for a working spot Sunday must also have attained their NW1 title. There will be 8 working spots for the day. Those that chose to attend Sunday but are not working a dog will audit all searches, all day. The advantage of this particular coaching day is that all of the pertinent information and background will have been covered over the day before. The day will be non-stop exercises. This weekend is open to all K9 Nose Work® enthusiasts that have a basic understanding of K9 Nose Work® training techniques. Amy Herot, Co-Founder, NACSW ™, CPDT-KA Amy is one of the country’s most experienced K9 Nose Work® instructors. In addition to teaching many of the top competitive teams, she has also reviewed hundreds of trial videos that have provided important insights into training and handling for success, including search area analysis, search management, understanding environmental conditions and working with the search style of your dog. Through video review, live demos, environmental study, and discussion, Amy will offer a number of options for setting up an exercise training plan for your dog (or your students’ dogs) that will increase skills and confidence. This seminar will help you go to the start line with confidence at any level K9 Nose Work® Trial.
