Know how to provide strength, stability and support to articles. 5. Know about hem and edge finishing. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA The learner can: 1.1. Select a pattern and fabric for a specific purpose. 1.2. Outline the reasons for selection of pattern and fabric type. 1.3. Create a pattern lay, following all pattern markings, making economical use of fabric. 1.4. Cut out the article. 1.5. Construct the article. 1.6. Select all the required sewing notions. 2.1. Use temporary stitching. 2.2. Use permanent stitching. 2.3. Use a permanent seam type and finish as appropriate to article and weight of fabric. 2.4. Hand stitch using correct thread and stitch size. 2.5. Machine stitch using correct thread and stitch size. 3.1. Use one method to manipulate even distribution of fullness. 4.1. Identify woven and non-woven interfacing. 4.2. State the purpose of woven and nonwoven interfacing. 4.3. Identify different weights of interfacing. 4.4. State the purpose of different weights of interfacing. 4.5. Use one type of interfacing for a specific purpose. 5.1. Identify basic plain hem finishes. 5.2.
