I.
Recognition
A. Henry Speight for Honorable Mention Class B All-State Basketball Player – Henry was
unable to attend the meeting and will be recognized at next month’s Board meeting.
B. Juan Rodriguez for the NEMWA Wrestling State Title – Mr. McKenzie explained how
Juan qualified for the State tournament and won, as well as his many achievements
during this year’s wrestling season.
C. Juanita Hadley for Going Above and Beyond as Head Cook – Tim recognized and
thanked Ms. Hadley for her hard work and dedication feeding over 2,000 students on a
daily basis.
D. Kevin Rooker for Organizing the High School Social Studies Trip to San Francisco –
Ms. Thelen gave details on Mr. Rooker’s hard work and dedication organizing the
Social Studies trip every two years. Mr. Rooker spoke about the sights the students
visited and what destinations are on the horizon for their next trip.
II.
Presentation
A. Snap Shot of Omni - Tiffany Peterson and the Omni students and staff talked of the
many events happening at Omni along with the positive energy everyone is feeling.
Omni students have raised $420 for Multiple Sclerosis and $98 for Autism. Jazman
Martin read her essay on “What is Omni?” Ms. Hodges spoke about the project for
March’s Reading Month - students writing children’s books. Dylan Ireland read one of
the books to the Board. Ms. Alison explained about the origami boxes the students
made for the Board members.

III.
Introduction of Staff
A. Tiffany Peterson – Patricia Campbell was introduced to the Board as the new Omni
math teacher who started in January of this year. Ms. Campbell talked briefly about her
background and her position at Omni.
B. Shawn Thelen – Jamie Matz was unable to attend the meeting and will be introduced
next month.

A. Written reports were supplied by each principal and director.
Finance
A. Finance Memo – The memo was submitted to the Board.

Superintendent’s Report
A. Roof Information – Ken Hyde reviewed the middle school roof project. The Dura-last
roof has a 15 year warranty. Ken estimates that the total cost will be about $200,000.
The Board asked that Ken get bids.
B. Sign Advertisements – The plan is to designate space for school use and the Township
Rec-League to use. Once the size of the signs is decided a fee will be determined. All
signs must be approved by the Superintendent.
C. Bus Lease –Our current bus lease will end in June. There will be a minimal increase in
the new lease. Tim strongly recommends we lease a new bus.
XI.
Notification of FMLA
A. Notification of Family Medical Leave for Lisa Brooks, from her position as a teacher
at the elementary school, on April 13 to 24, 2015. This leave will be granted under the
Family Medical Leave Act.

A. Approved: Recommendation of the General Operations bills as listed on the following
check registers (including payroll, payroll liabilities and hot lunch bills)

B. Approved: Recommendation of payment to Bay Arenac Intermediate School District
(BAISD) for the Career and Technical Education Program as approved by Shawn
Thelen and supported by the Director of Finance.
C. Approved: Recommendation to enter into a new three-year lease agreement to replace
the 2013 school bus with a 2016 model. Quarterly payments will increase slightly (less
than $100) with all other arrangements remaining the same. Specifications of the new
bus have been reviewed and approved by Ruth Gorney, Transportation Director and
supported by the Director of Finance.

A. Approved: Recommendation to accept letter of retirement from Joyce Campbell, ParaProfessional at the Post-Secondary Transitional Program effective April 30, 2015, as
presented by Cheryl Taylor and supported by the Superintendent.
B. Approved: Recommendation to accept letter of retirement from Petra Nevarez, food
service worker, effective June 5, 2015 as presented and supported by the
Superintendent.
C. Approved: Recommendation to accept letter of resignation from Jose Duran, ParaProfessional at the Post-Secondary Transitional Program effective April 24, 2015 as
presented by Cheryl Taylor and supported by the Superintendent.
D. Approved: Recommendation to accept letter of resignation from Ryanne Griffith, ParaProfessional at the Post-Secondary Transitional Program effective May 8, 2015, as
presented by Cheryl Taylor and supported by the Superintendent.
E. Approved: Recommendation to accept letter of resignation from Tony Riopelle, ParaProfessional at the Post-Secondary Transitional Program effective April 13, 2015, as

F. Approved: Recommendation to hire Amy Chojnacki as a Cleaner/Helper effective

under Article 10, Section E1, Personal Illness, of the CEA Contract, from March 23 to
June 9, 2015 as presented and supported by the Superintendent.

Steve: Thanks to Tiffany and what a great effect you are having at Omni! Good job
everyone.
Loren: Thanks Tiffany for the Omni presentation. It is great to see the positive things going
on at Omni with students and staff. Keep up the good work. Good job everyone.
Ray: Really touched by Jazman’s essay and the trip to San Francisco. Ray plans to take a
tour of Omni to see the improvements.
Bill: Moved by Jazman’s essay and appreciates all the things going on at Omni. Great that
Omni is a part of our District. Numbers are looking good for graduation. The San Francisco
trip sounded amazing. Seniors to Seniors is this week. Looking forward to that and hope
the weather holds out. Bill will be attending the dinner at the Transitions Center with Tim
tomorrow night.
Anthony: Thank you everyone. Happy to be getting such positive information on Omni and
proud of the work going on there - it is very inspiring. Good luck on the M-Step. Good
meeting and thank you very much.
