Annotation Guidelines: Night by Elie Wiesel
Night is the chilling yet poignant tale of the placement of Elie Wiesel’s family into the Auschwitz
death camp, as well as his own story of survival. To keep track of and hold onto your thoughts,
ideas, and questions from the book, we will be annotating as we read.
Directions:




Annotation is based on the symbols that we have been using (see your orange bookmark)
Students must make a minimum of 12 sticky notes
At least 4 of the sticky notes must be about literary devices or figurative language
Each sticky note should include the annotation symbol (from your bookmark), the page
number, the quote, and commentary
 Sticky notes should be placed onto a piece of notebook paper (6 front/6 back), to be
turned in on Wednesday, 10/29.
 Additional paper may be stapled together to turn in extra annotation.
