place high emphasis on the safety needs
of all faculty, staff and students in NTU.
More than 200 staff members are certified first-aiders and have been trained in performing
Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and using an Automated External Defibrillator
(AED).
To further reinforce NTU community in recognizing, handling and responding appropriately
to emergency situations, OHS had recently organised a Community Emergency
Preparedness (CEP) Day on 21 January 2011 with a turnout of 250 participants.
The 1 day event was intended to provide NTU community with an understanding of basic
fire prevention and basic knowledge of giving first aid, performing CPR and using an AED
on victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
Participants were taught on the use of fire fighting equipment and also method to attend to
basic first aid, how and when to perform CPR, as well as when and how to use an AED.
The in-house instructors gave live demonstrations and guided participation to hands-on
practice with the use of CPR manikins and trainer AED sets.
Based from feedback received, the participants had a fruitful time learning the practical
applications and are fully aware that combined knowledge and skill in critical life-saving is
beneficial both at work and at home.
On this note, I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to the group of SCDF officers,
staff from MSE, and the team of volunteer helpers from various schools and departments for
taking part in the event.
Below are some snapshots of the event.
