November 2016 Innovation and Inspiration What a wonderful time to reflect God’s goodness and blessings! I am humbled at the amazing gifts of God. There isn’t room enough to express my gratitude in full; however, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for our amazing teachers at CCA. I am truly thankful for all the wonderful families here. I enjoy seeing the smiles on the faces of children each day as they walk in our door. Thank you for trusting us to share in their growth and development. What rich treasures have been bestowed upon us! We would like to extend a big THANK YOU to PTO for funding the ‘pumpkin patch’. Thank you to all who helped make it so much fun. Thank you to all our families for their hard work and commitment in planning, preparing and implementing our Halloween parties. Success! Throughout November we will continue to consider the many blessings in our lives and turn our focus towards togetherness with family and friends. We will talk about our own families and the families of our first Americans. We will read the story of The Very First Thanksgiving Day by Rhonda Growler Greene to help the children understand how important it was for the Pilgrims and Native Americans to get along and work together. Mid-month our dramatic play area will be transformed into a Native American village. Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday! During the month of November, we will celebrate BROWN DAY. Remember to wear something BROWN on November 3. At the end of the month, we will talk about the first Thanksgiving that the Native Americans and the Pilgrims celebrated together. We are continuing to work on our fine motor skills as we write in our journals, cut at the art table, and manipulate play dough. 4’s & 5’s This month the 4’s will celebrate “Popcorn Day”. The children will participate in a variety of activities including tasting and graphing their favorite popcorn flavor, counting popcorn kernels and doing experiments with popcorn. We will read the Frank Asch bear storybook titled Popcorn. Later in the month, we will enjoy having a teepee in our dramatic play area. As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, we will create our own recipe by dictating our own instructions for cooking a turkey, and also discuss for what we are thankful. We will model the Native Americans by making pottery necklaces. PAGE 4 J r k i nd e rg a rt e n Lunch bunch Does your child wish their day could go on but you’re not sure about staying until 3 PM? The class will learn about Pilgrims and how they came here to live from a country across the ocean. We can’t wait to start! In our 4 and 5 year old Adventure Club, we’ll spend time this month talking about the different changes we’ve had in our season of fall and talking about Thanksgiving, especially being thankful for our bountiful blessings. We’ll be busy making Indian corn, scarecrows, canoes, turkeys, a color leaf booklet and learning how to make and squeeze our own orange juice. Our group project for the month will be collaging leaves, flowers, etc… outside items found in our yard. Our Spanish words for November are café (brown), la familia (family), and el pavo (turkey). Adventure Club is our extended day option. While at Adventure Club your child will make discoveries and explore the world. Adventure Club is offered for 3’s on Tuesday. For 4’s and 5’s it is available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you would like to sign up for Lunch Bunch, Jr. Kindergarten and/ or Adventure Club, please email Stacy at [email protected] or talk to your child’s teacher, and secure your child’s opportunity now. PAGE 5 November’s Dig Deeper, Grow Stronger is a continuation of our October memory verse of ‘Love one another’. I hope you and your family continue conversations about how to love one another, more and better. (We’d love to hear how those conversations went / go!) We are programmed to desire love. It is at the core of who God created us to be. We crave relationships… ultimately we crave love. We are designed with a thirst for love. God is love. We are created to hunger and thirst for love– God. What is love though? We look to I Corinthians 13 for answers. For November, please help your child memorize Love is kind. What does it mean to be kind and thoughtful? Being thoughtful means that you consider others, give attention and care to their feelings first. It helps us take the load and focus off ourselves, so as to be able to see the needs around us. It is a form of love that seeks to uplift and do good whenever possible. It is the opposite of selfishness, yet, it does not cause us to neglect ourselves because that would be unkind to God’s child– you! It is especially appreciated when it is not expected. Being thoughtful will not allow schedules to take priority over people. How would you define Thoughtfulness? Do you consider yourself a person who uplifts others? Are you a person who is always in a rush? What are the things that cause you not to be thoughtful with others? How does being careless counteract Thoughtfulness? How can you be a person who sees the value and importance of work, regardless of what the task is? What happens to our relationship with God and with others when we refuse to work our best and/or complain about what we do? Think through the steps you need to take to put Thoughtfulness into action in a specific instance, such as remembering birthdays and anniversaries of significant others. Take careful analysis of your driving habits and business conduct. Show appreciation for others by saying "please" and "thank you," and ask if you are in line with God's Word? Also, consider that always being in a rush will cut you off from life's most precious and needed opportunities. So, be willing to budget your time in order to make the time for others! Model love through kindness and thoughtfulness to your child. Tell them when you see their kindness and thoughtfulness that you appreciate it and that they are doing a great job of showing love. As a part of their family, we invite you to participate as you are called in any of the ministries Christ’s Church offers. WEEKEND FOOD PROGRAM (Because hunger doesn’t take a break on the weekend) Join the Elementary Schools Missional Community as we, once again, have been given the opportunity to love and care for students who need our support. As you are able, please provide item(s) listed, or make monetary donation(s) to Christ’s Church, to help feed those in need each weekend this 2015/2016 school year. Food to provide for each student, weekly: Kraft mac & cheese (microwave kind) Ramen noodles in Individual Cups Granola bars Cheese and crackers Peanut butter Crackers Individual Fruit Cups Individual Cups of Apple Sauce What? Ensure that some of our neediest students are provided food each weekend throughout the school year that is nutritious, kid-friendly, and easy to prepare. Why? Students on free lunch may rely on the breakfast and lunch they are served at school, because their families struggle financially to provide healthy food for them on the weekends. Consequences of hunger are much more than a growling stomach. Poor nutrition can lead to: o Weaker immune system o Lower IQ o Shorter attention span o Lower academic achievement Who? Students who are identified on the free lunch program Students who are identified as homeless Students whose teachers/nurse/counselor identify as coming back to school on Monday “hungry” How? The counselor will pack the food we provide in bags to, confidentially, put in the student’s backpacks every Friday before school dismissal. “Goodness is the only investment that never fails.” - Henry David Thoreau School calendar November 8 7-11 9 19 23, 24, 25 27 No School Book Fair Grandparents’ Day Parents Morning Out Thanksgiving Break Cookies & Milk with Santa December 14 Choir of Angels 15, 19 Christmas Parties 12/20 - 1/3 Christmas Break January 4 Return to school No School Martin Luther King Jr Poker Night 16 20 February 13, 14 Valentine Parties 20 No School President's Day March 10 20-24 31 April 26, 27 14, 17 May 11, 12 TBD 23, 24 25 CCA Book Fair is November 7-11 and open to the public.
