Your church can give children
clean water, better health, an
education and a future
When your church helps WaterAid and our partners to install
a water source and provide sanitation facilities and hygiene
education, you change everything for communities like Neny’s.
Not only do children have more time to go to school, but their
parents are also able to make a living. They can all lead
healthier lives, free from water-related diseases, and look
forward to happier futures.
The 40-day journey through
Lent can be long and testing.
But Neny’s journey
to collect filthy water
is robbing her of
an education and
her childhood.
Lent Appeal 2017
It takes Neny an hour to fetch just one
bucket of dirty water. She makes this
trip up to four times a day.
In Tsarafangitra village, Neny fetches water for her family before
and after school, and before and after church on Sunday. It takes
half an hour, walking along a busy main road and then down a
steep hill just to reach the dirty pond. Surrounded by mud, the
pond is hidden behind thick ferns – a breeding ground for malaria
mosquitoes. The surface of the pond is almost totally covered by
algae. Leeches and other tiny creatures are moving on and below
the surface. This water makes Neny sick and the journey means
she is often late for school or misses it altogether.

Neny’s journey is long and difficult.
Emeldah (centre) and her family now have
safe, clean water and, in turn, a brighter
future because of the help churches like
yours gave at Lent last year.

Turn Jars of Change into safe water and
a better life for children like Neny
Your congregation’s journey of giving something up
this Lent can ensure that Neny no longer has to walk
the treacherous 3km round trip for water that makes
her ill. Your church’s donation can help WaterAid
and our partner organisation, Christian Solidarity
Association for the Development of Madagascar, drill
a borehole in Neny’s village, as well as provide access
to safe water throughout the region.
