ApprovalofMinutes
 TherewerenochangestotheMarch1,2016BoardMeetingminutes:
ChrisSlotamadeamotion,secondedbyJoanIhrig,toapprovetheminutesfromtheMarch1,
2016BoardMeeting.Themotionpassedunanimously.
MeetingwithNationalMainStreetOrganization:
 Theresponsefromthecommunitytothenationalorganizationwasoverwhelmingly
positive
 TheNationalOrganizationwouldlikethatMSSShaveanoverarchinggoalthat
informseachofthe4existingcommitteesinsteadofthe4committeesworking
separately.Thatwayeachcommitteedoesn’thavetomeeteachmonth.Theworkwill
beprojectoriented,ratherthancommitteeoriented.Theneedisforanoverarching
strategy.Theygavesuggestions,suchastourismstrategyandartsstrategy,touseasa
filtertoinformtheworkplan.ThemessageisthatMSSSwouldbegoingfromgoodto
great.
 Thisstrategywillbediscussedfurthertowardthemiddleofthemonthwiththegoal
ofstreamliningthework.Lisasuspectsthattheboardalreadythinksthisway,butthe
topicisopenfordiscussion.
 KristensuggestedthatMSSSasanorganizationneedstoreportwhatandhowwork
isbeingdone,sothatothergroupscanbeshownhowMSSSoperatesandaccomplishes
goals.
 AspartoftheNationalOrganizationswork,awordcloudwascreated,andMSSS’sis
positiveasopposedtomanycommunities.Kathyemphasizedtheimportanceof
recognizingtheuniquenessofthethreestreets;OakStreetbeingbusiness,worshipand
healthoriented,YampaStreetbeinganentertainmentdistrictandLincolnbeingthe
heartofthecommunity.Adiscussionfollowedoverthefluidityofthiscurrentbusiness
picture.Asdecisionsaremade,basedonbusinesspatterns,itisimportanttodocument
thatprocesssothereisawaytoshowthenationalorganizationhowtheworkisdone
here.Workwillcontinueonthisforthenext18months.
 LisastatedthatitisimportanttocontinuetofocusonLincolnAvenue.Itistheheart
ofthecommunityandneedsaverygoodstrategyandplan.Thedevelopmentofthe
propertyat12thandLincolnwillhelpdefinethestreet.HavingpeopleliveonLincoln
willchangetheneedsofdowntown.
 JoanaskedhowtheboardcouldhelpLisawiththisprojectandwhetheraworkshop
orspecialmeetingiswarranted.Lisaaskedeveryonetothinkaboutthistodiscussat
furthermeetings.
 Thistopicwillbeonthemonthlyagendaforallupcomingmeetings.
Committeereports
 Membershipreport
a. Thereare81duespayingmembers,$22,430hasbeencollected.The
monetarygoalforthisyearis$27,000.Therewere120businessmembers
lastyear,andthegoalforthisyearistohave130members.
b. Lisaencouragesbusinessestopaywhattheycanortopayininstallmentsif
theyfindthattheduesaretoohigh.
 Economicdevelopment
a. MainStreethasreceivedtwolettersofsupportfortherevolvingloan
program,onefromAlpineBank,andonefromBankoftheWest.Eachpledged
$10,000towardsthefund.Thisisa$100,000fundwithmatchesfromtheUSDA.
Theseareforsmallbusinessesthatneedsmallprojectfunds.Theaverageloan
is$2,000.00.TheremustbelettersofsupportinordertoapplytotheUSDA,so
thisisprogresstowardthegoal.JimCookisthepersonbehindtheprojectand
islookingformorebanksandprivateinvestors.Theymustgetto$50,000toget
thematch.MainStreetalsohasasmallbusinessloanprogram.
b. Aretailstudyhasbeenapprovedandthecompanytoperformtheserviceis
EPS/EconomicandPlanningServices,Inc.Theyhavedoneseveralstudiesinthe
areainthepast.Anamendmentwasmadetotheproposaltocompletethestudy
inJulyratherthanJunestretchingthestudyintonextfiscalyearfortheState.A
copyofthefinalproposalwillbesenttoboardmembersonceitisrevised.
 Design
a. Theconstructionof50flowerbasketsforLincolnAvenueisunderwayand
YampaValleyElectrichasapprovedthedesign.AMarketingCampaignisinthe
planningstagestofundtheproject.Sponsorshipofabasketwillbe$500each
andthatwillcoverthecostoffabricatingthebasketusingalocalartist,the
hardwareneededtohangthem,andtheflowersforthefirstyear.$25,000must
beraisedtobuildthebaskets,sothe$500perbasketcoversthatcost.Main
Streetislookingforalargersponsorshipandhassomeseedmoneyfroma
benefactor.Thefundingcampaignmaytaketwoyears.Thebasketswillstayup
allyear,sotherewillbeaneedforotherdecoration.Thisyearwillbepaidout
ofthebudget,usingthesponsorshipstooffsetthecostandtohelppayfornext
year.
b. CamiBunnandLisametwiththeChiefofPolice,TylerGibbs,andBenBeall
todiscusspossiblesolutionstothesignpollutionproblem.Anothermeeting
willbescheduledinAprilwiththePoliceDepartment,CityPlanning,Public
WorksandMainStreettoactuallywalkthestreetswiththesolutionsinmindto
streamlinethesignage.
c. JimCookisworkingonanalleyprojecttocleanupthealleysandpossibly
repurposesomeofthealleyareas.

d. Thereisacitymoratoriumonmuralsoncitybuildingsbutnotonprivate
buildings.
 Promotions/Marketing
a. LisaislookingforahashtagpromotionforApril.TheMarchpartnership
withAgAlliance(#lovelocal)wasverysuccessful
b. TheFrontRangeMarketingisstillbeingaggressivelyplanned.Eachposter
boardneeds6businesses.ThemarketingprogramstartsMay1andneeds
businessestogive$770ingiftcardstoparticipate.Lisaneedscommitments
inthenext2weeks.6businessesperboard(20locations)andwouldlove
12businesses.Shehas4businessesandneeds2more.Manyprototypes
forposterswerebroughttothemeetingandcritiqued.Theboard
encouragedLisatolookfor4thofJulyandrodeopicturestopresentamore
specificallySteamboatsummerimage.
c. FarmersMarketupdate:Mostoftheboothspacehasbeenrentedforthe
summer,althoughsomearesetasidefornon‐profitsandcitycouncil.Some
spotsremainavailableforspecificweeks,butnonefortheentiresummer.
15spotswereaddedthisyear.ThemarketwillbeonbothsidesofYampa
aspermittedasconstructionoccurs.Lisawillhavetheprojectedincome
forthemarketnextmonth.Allpermitswillbesubmittedthismonth.Trevor
G.PotterishelpingtosecureasponsorfortheMusicfortheMarket.$3,500
wouldpayformusiceachweekattheFarmer’sMarket.Becauseofroad
construction,flexibilitywillbeneededallsummerandthepossibilityof
havingtorelocatetoLittleTootsParkremainsreal.
d. TheRailJamcleared$190.
Financials
 TreasurerJoanIhrigreportedthatwenowhaveabackupcopyofourfinancialsthat
canbeaccessedbythetreasurer.Shecannowdoanycomparablesthatwewantanddo
nothavetoaskforittobedonebytheaccountant.
 2015wasagoodyearandtheFarmer’sMarketandduesmadeitpossibletocover
allexpensesandhaveenoughmoneyinthebanktocovertheslowseasons.Somebills
havecomeinfrompreviousyears,buttheywerepaidoutofoperatingexpensesinthe
budget.ItisextremelyimportantthatMainStreetcontinuetoreceivefinancialsupport
ofalloftheorganizationsthatgrantsfundinglikethecity,etc.Thenewadministrative
assistanthascleanedupthecollectionofduesandisgettingthedirectorycompleted.
 ChrisSlotawilltakebecomeco‐treasurerofMainStreetSteamboatSpringsinthe
secondquarter:
KathyStokesmadeamotion,secondedbyKristenVanDeCarr,toapprovethatChrisSlota
takeoverasCo‐Treasurerforthesecondquarter,toworkconcurrentlywithcurrentTreasurer
JoanIhrig,andtakeovercompletelyasMainStreetSteamboatSpringsTreasureratthe
beginningofthethirdquarter.Themotionpassedunanimously.

Manager’sReport
 DowntownAmbassadors‐ShoshanaRandellandLisawillbemeetingthismonthto
putthefinaldetailstogethertopresenttheconceptofDowntownAmbassadorstothe
CityandCityCouncil.Theywillbeaskingforthecitytoprovideinkindsupportinthe
formofHowelsenHillpassesandGolfpasses.Asmallsponsorshipwillbeneededto
coverthecostofhats,lanyardsandpossiblyshirtsfortheambassadors.CamiBunnand
LisametwiththepolicechieftodiscussthepossibilityofAmbassadorsonhorseback,
andthenextstepwouldbetodiscussitwiththeCounty.
 Lisaishavingdiscussionswiththecityandownersofpedi‐cabstohelpcrowd
circulationduringthesummerandtoprotectbusinessonYampaStreet.Thecostofthe
cabswouldhavetobecoveredbysponsorshipsandadvertising.Afullcabsponsorship
forthesummerwouldbe$3,500andLisawouldlike3cabs.Sheiseagertomakethis
happenforthesummerseason.
OtherBusiness
 The2016MiniGranthasbeensubmittedtoDOLA.
 Thebookkeepersearchcontinues,butwillnotbemovedonuntilMaywhenthe
MainStreettaxesarecompleted.
 ThetopicofthetreelightsonLincolnAvenuewasraisedandLisareportedthatshe
isonthiswiththecity.Nooneseemstoknowwhatiswrongwiththelightsbutasthe
weatherimprovesitishopedthatasolutionisfound.
