NATIONAL SOCIETY SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION (SAR)
To become a member of the DAR or SAR you must be a direct descendant of a Patriot (One who
served/aided the cause during the American Revolution). There is a "patriots" lookup that is in most any
library and online, that gives you the already accepted patriots and you just have to tag on to the nearest
relative. Instructions, forms and addition information is available at DAR http://www.dar.org/ SAR
http://www.sar.org/ They both have “Where to Start” tabs that give you a step by step guide.
If your ancestor served in the Revolution and is not listed below you will have to prove your linage back by
providing documentation from yourself back to him. Local chapters of the DAR and SAR are very helpful in
getting you through this procedure. Be sure and check the Vermilyea Generation PDF’s at
www.vermilyeafamilyreunion.com to check if you connect to a possible Patriot. There are several listed in
our family genealogy as receiving a pension that are not listed below.
