Newsletter 24 Friday 24th March 2017 School Office Phone Number: 01283 239475 School Website: http://www.rykneld.staffs.sch.uk Shakespeare Week The children have enjoyed a range of exciting activities across school as part of Shakespeare Week, including composing music to a lullaby, painting pictures of a magical forest, finding out facts about Shakespeare, creating soundscapes, taking part in drama and recreating a piece of medieval art. We hope parents will have enjoyed the opportunity to come and look at the children’s work. Superheroes As part of the Reception theme of “superheroes” the children have been thinking about real life superheroes. This week, the children have enjoyed a visit from Mrs Sworder, our school crossing patrol officer. The children learnt about how to cross the road safely and enjoyed trying on the special uniform! Year 5 Footballers Visit On Wednesday, Year 5 pupils were very lucky to be visited by two Burton Albion players. Chris O’Grady and Lloyd Dyer visited as part of the ‘Move and Learn’ project that Year 5 are currently participating in. They discussed the importance of being healthy and even joined in a game of handball with the children. Stone Age Experience Day Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic time this week, visiting Conkers for their Stone Age Experience Day. They were entertained by a performance from a Cave Man, who was able to show them what their day would have been like in the Stone Age. The children had the opportunity to learn from real archaeologists how they made their weapons, how to trade goods and how difficult it was to collect water and grind grains to make flour. Football News Our football team have played two impressive matches this week. The first was in a cup quarter final against Shobnall B, which we won 7-0, and the second match was against Richard Crosse which we won 7-1!!! The team played brilliantly in both matches and showed real team spirit. Thank you very much to all the children who played and a big thank you to our parents for their support which is much appreciated. Fingers crossed for the semi-final! Attendance Awards Well done to Class 1V (100%) and Class 4C (99.2%) who were the best attended classes last week.
