INVEST AN ACRE

That’s the number of people in Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas who
are food insecure. While farmers are busy producing food, there has been no easy way for
farmers to use their crops to help those struggling in our region. But what if these farmers
could donate the value of a portion of their crops to the people who need it most? That’s
the idea behind Invest an Acre. Now, it’s easy for farmers to be part of the solution to
hunger and to help those in need in their community.
What is Invest an Acre?
Second Harvest Community Food Bank, ADM, The Howard G.
Buffett Foundation, Monsanto and Feeding America have
partnered to launch Invest an Acre, a program to encourage
farmers across the country to donate the value of one acre or
more of crop proceeds to help nourish their neighbors in need.
How does a farmer’s donation work?
It’s easy. 1) Send a check made out to Invest an Acre and send it
to Second Harvest. 2) Donate online at www.investanacre.org
3) Deliver the crop to your local grain elevator and decide on
the amount you would like to donate. The elevator
sends the donation in and farmers will receive a receipt
for their charitable contribution by Feeding America and
Second Harvest.
How much of my donation will
benefit Second Harvest?
100% of contributions will benefit Second Harvest when grain
is donated through the Invest an Acre program. Monsanto will
match donations one-for-one, doubling the impact of the
contributions. The Howard G. Buffett Foundation will
underwrite all of the administrative costs.
How much will my donation help?
On average, every acre of corn can help secure nearly 1,800
meals and an acre of soybeans can help secure up to 1,200
meals. When the value of even a single acre is donated,
thousands of your neighbors can receive a healthy meal.
