1. It takes Frank 2 hours to mow his lawn, but it only takes his dad 55
minutes to mow it. Find (in hours) how much longer it takes Frank to
mow the yard than it takes his dad.
Frank = 2 hours = 120 minutes
Frank’s dad = 55 minutes
Difference = 120 – 55 minutes = 65 minutes
Since there are 60 minutes in an hour, the difference is
hours, or 1

2. Use the expression 15 − 12 ÷ 4 + 2 ⋅ 7 to answer the questions below.
a) Evaluate 15 − 12 ÷ 4 + 2 ⋅ 7
15 − 12 ÷ 4 + 2 ⋅ 7 = 15 − 3 + 14
= 12 + 14
= 26
b) Insert grouping symbols in the expression 15 − 12 ÷ 4 + 2 ⋅ 7 so that the
result is 1.
15 − 12 ÷ ( 4 + 2 ) ⋅ 7 = 15 − 12 ÷ ( 6 ) ⋅ 7
= 15 − 2 ⋅ 7
= 15 − 14
