Higher-level classes—At Sahuarita Middle School, we strive to meet the needs
of all students and are proud to continue offering the following higher-level
classes as well as two new classes: 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Advanced Language
Arts; 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Accelerated Math, including Algebra; a new 8th grade
Geometry class; 8th grade Advanced Science and 8th grade Forensics; 8th grade
Spanish and 8th grade Mandarin Chinese for high school credit; and a new 6th, 7th,
and 8th grade Technology elective. 8th grade Spanish and Mandarin Chinese will
continue to be offered during Zero Hour from 7:20-8:20am daily on the SMS campus. An Optional Zero Hour Course registration form and Technology Elective registration form will be given to your child in Period 1 in mid-April and will be posted
on our website and Facebook pages.

Fine Arts classes—We are pleased to be able to continue to provide opportunities to study both 2D and 3D art in our 6 th, 7th and 8th grade Art classes as well
as offer Choir, Band, and Orchestra in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The 7th/8th
grade Orchestra class will continue to be offered during Zero Hour from 7:208:20am daily on the SMS campus. An Optional Zero Hour Course registration form
will be given to your child in Period 1 in mid-April and will be posted on our website and Facebook pages.

Enrichment classes—After two years of implementing enrichment classes, we
will continue to expand upon the enrichment class offerings in order to provide
each student with a different enrichment class each quarter that is engaging and
meaningful as well as affords students the opportunity to study topics at a deeper
level during the daily Reteach/Enrich class period. Two new enrichment offerings
will be the semester-long enrichment classes in Jazz Band and Drum Line.


Daily Math Skills—We will continue the SUSD K-8 Daily Math Skills (DMS) program to help students develop math fact fluency (speed and accuracy) starting at
their current level of Math performance and expanding their Math skills through a
systematic progression of skill development.

Grading and Homework Changes—Annually the teacher teams will collaboratively evaluate, reflect upon, and refine our team-based grading and homework
guidelines for the next school year to ensure that they are structured to help students develop the habits, knowledge, and skills necessary to be successful in
middle school, high school, and beyond.
We wish everyone a Happy Spring and appreciate your efforts in helping your child
finish the school year strong academically, behaviorally, and in daily attendance!

reach our fundraising goal. The funds collected will be used to cater a nice meal for

Thank you for having your students present
and on time for AzMERIT testing! Each day
we gave out on-task tickets. Students then got
to use them to win fun prizes throughout the
week! Way to go, Jaguars!
