September 13, 2013
Large Group
Small Group
Theme: Apples
Letter of the Week: Cc
Shape of the Week: Triangle
Color of the Week: Green
Pattern of the Month: Green, Brown, Yellow,
Green, Brown, Yellow…
Apple Tasting and Graphing: The students
sampled a red apple, a yellow apple and a green
apple. They then had to find their name and glue it
under the apple color that they liked the best. Red
was the winner.
Apple Toss: The students each had 3 bean bags
(we pretended they were apples). They had to toss
one apple at a time and try to make it in the
basket. They then had to count how many they
made.
Apple Hunt: We went looking for apples around
the room. When the students found and apple,
they picked it and put it in a basket. After all of the
apples were picked, we counted to see how many
we found, sorted them by color and then saw
which color had the most and which had the least.

Apple Patterning: The students had to complete the
apple pattern using red, yellow or green dye cut apples.
Apple Sorting: The students were given a red, yellow or
green apple and had to match it to the correct basket
color.
Fiddle De Fee Apple Tree Game: Each student placed
10 apples on their tree. They then had to draw a card.
The cards were labeled from 0 to 3. They had to identify
the number on the card and then had to take that many
apples off their tree.
Apple Basket Concepts: The students had to listen to
directions on this game. They were told to place their
apple in different places around a basket (in the basket,
out of the basket, next to the basket…).
Apple Quilt Block with Geometric Shapes: Students
used different shapes to assemble an apple on their
mat. They had to identify the shape and then used a
model to see where that shape belonged.
Apple Pom Pom Match: The students had to identify
what color caterpillar was on their apple. They then had
to find the matching pom pom to complete their
caterpillar.

Apple Dramatics
Have the students create apple puppets with an apple cutout and a popsicle stick. Have them sing the
following song while five students at a time act it out. As each one is eliminated, they sit down.
Sung to "Five Little Monkeys"
Five little apples swinging in a tree
I sure wish one would fall to me
One fell down
And hit the ground
Now how many apples do you see?
Keep singing until all apples have fallen.
