SENDING BAD TEXTS
Bobby sent texts and posted on Facebook that
Ray was a big pile of dog and he was going to
get it. Ray reported the threat to Facebook and
they disabled Bobby’s account and deleted
the offending comments. Ray told his phone
company and they blocked Bobby’s phone
number from his phone. Ray told the Police he
was being cyber-bullied. The Police confiscated
Bobby’s phone. Facebook Managers showed
Police the comments Bobby had made. Bobby
got fined $5,000.

what’s OK to say
CYBERBULLYING is bullying done through using technology - like using Facebook, a camera, or a phone
to embarrass or hurt someone. The worry is that it can be shared widely - and a lot of people will see it very
quickly - which is why it is so dangerous and hurtful.
ABORIGINAL PEOPLE HAVE RIGHTS to be safe and treated with respect in the cyber world.
SOCIAL NETWORKING
TEXTING
Think before you post, text or message anything. Anything
you text, write, share or post may stay online forever.
Think before you text anything. Anything you write or text
can stay there forever. Once you have sent a message, or
received it, it is no longer under your control. Whatever you
send or recieve can be used as evidence in court.
This includes a status update, messages to a friend, texts
to a phone, and pictures you send, tag or post. Once it
is online, it is no longer under your control. Whatever you
write, share or post can be used as evidence in court.
If you put up personal information, about you or your
friends or family, it may put them at risk of danger. It’s really
hard to get stuff off once it’s online.
Messages or pictures that you send to your friends can be
retrieved by the managers of Phone companies, Internet
Service Providers, and Social Media Sites and can be used
by police as evidence to prove that you did a certain thing.
Use “report abuse”, “cyberbullying help button” or other
features on social media sites to report inappropriate
content, abuse and cyberbullying immediately. You can
also talk to the Police.
Use privacy settings on Social Media sites to control how
much of your personal information is public.
Block users who make you feel uncomfortable - even if
they’re friends or family.
Keep your password secret. And change it often.
Text messages can be used to show cyberbullying. Even
if you delete a text message after you have sent, it can still
be found on your phone. Police can retrieve the message
and use it as evidence in a court.
PHOTOS
Safe sexting doesn’t exist. If you send, receive or forward
photos or pictures of yourself or other people that are
sexualised, you could be breaking the law.
If you are under 18 years and you send a naked picture
of yourself or of someone else to your mates you can be
charged with child pornography offences.
If you get convicted of a child pornography offence you can
be placed on what is called the Child Protection Register
which means you will be monitored for some time.
FILMING
If you film people, the film can be used in court as
evidence.
PHONE LOCATION SERVICES
Police can confiscate your phone as evidence and use the
film on your phone to charge someone with an assault.
Phones can post your location information online
automatically. Think carefully before you tell everyone
where you are.
If you delete a film off your phone it can still be recovered
by police months or even years later. It can then be played
and used as evidence in court.
Getting done for
cyberbullying can mean a big
$$ fine or even time inside.
