Profile of the School of Architecture
Our school?is?
committed?to teaching of
architecture as integral to the act of
building of the city. Students?start by?
learning?that architectural design
?includes?the transformation and?planning
of?the built and natural environment. Thus
?discovery of the?
act of building is
intimately linked to the understanding?of?
a
territory and?it''s?
uses. Architecture remains
the art of construction in a changing
environment.
City
Today the world population lives mostly in
cities. The city has become a runaway
entity constantly?producing?new issues and
contradictions. Understanding the city is
studying all angles: productive force,
consumer goods, place of memory, mixing
space and partitioning, urban form, public
space...
Territories
The territory is not only a geographic area:
it is also the product of political, social,
cultural and legal elements who shaped it.
The study of architecture primarily
concerns the study of the environment in
which it will settle and it will transform.
Structure of the Curriculum
This initial training may be supplemented
by an entitlement to pursue project
management in its own name (HMONP-1
year), a degree of specialization and
deepening of Architecture (DSA-18
months), a Ph.D. in Architecture (D-3
years), or any other degree undergraduate
or graduate in related fields of architecture
(and master professional licenses,
research marsters, etc.).
The lessons are structured and validated
by half. The courses are in French.
1st cycle (Bachelor)
3 years
Dipl?me d''?tudes en architecture (DEEA) (180 ECTS)
This 3year programme leads to the equivalent of a Bachelor''s degree in architecture, le?license Research Programme
?and allows access to the second cycle of study.
2nd cycle (Master)
2 years
Dipl?me d''Etat d''architecte (DEA) (120 ECTS)
This 2yr programme leads to the degree of state architect.
The school has a research team,
l''Observatoire de la condition suburbaine
(OCS), which is one component of the
Joint Research Unit: AUSSER(architecture
, urbanism, society, knowledge, teaching,
research).
Bachelor Programme
1er Cycle.
The first cycle gives each student the
means to acquire basic knowledge of
architecture. To avoid disciplinary
fragmentation, to the side of the
architecture project, the lessons are not
multiplied but refocused on four fields of

2nd Cycle.
The second cycle revolves primarily
around four in-depth study of your choice:
Mati?res ? penser explores a range of
topics related to sustainable development,
and questioned how the matter during a
manufacturing process, informs the
architectural project.
Th?orie et projet is to compare a
theoretical reflection on the rules that guide
the design of a project, the specific
conditions of an architectural program.
Habitats et ?nergies focuses on the
transformation of architectural design
practices and urban forms of habitat
change in relation to the uses and
developments related to energy efficiency
in housing production.
Paris/M?tropoles strives to study,
investigate, and invent the key themes and
issues that shape both the history, current
functioning and future challenges in
metropolitan Paris, with regard to other
major international cities, to different
scales.
This offer is accompanied by teaching core
courses and electives (6 cycle) to be
chosen within the school or on campus
(School of Civil, IFU, University Paris-Est
Marne-la-Vallee).
(DSA) d''architecte-urbaniste
This course is for architects and
landscapers French or foreign. It
follows from the fact that the
architect-planner is now fully engaged
on the side of the project and its
representation in space, and along
towards urban issues, a new
profession, hitherto lacking specific
training France.
The course combines academic
teaching, professional development
situation and operational research. DSA
involves local, campus, some of our
partners: IFU, ENPC, Universit?
Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallee through the
master urban engineering.
This second cycle of 2 years, ending with a
semester devoted to the graduation project
(PFE) and ends with graduation of State
Architect combined master''s degree.

La formation Structure et architecture
The School of Architecture, in association
with the Ecole des Ponts, has set up this
training to both students entering the
second cycle architects and engineering
students in 2nd year. It helps to educate
the architects in the world of engineering
and vice versa and thus helps to open up
their respective worlds. Students who
successfully complete the training receive
a certificate jointly signed by both
institutions, to gain undisputed claim in
their careers.
